Wins the Grand Finals in a Perfect Run, Sweeping $400,000, Qing Jiu Club ended up second place, going home with $170,000.
Filipino esports team Elevate has done the impossible. The COD Mobile World Championship 2024 was won by the team with a flawless run of victories. In the Grand Finals, they outclass China's Qing Jiu Club to claim the championship trophy and record-breaking prize of $400,000, 40% of the $1 million prize pool. The championship was held at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, from October 4-6.
Elevate dominated from the very start, with a clean sweep of victories, having gone unscathed throughout the Swiss Stage and the Playoffs. In the Grand Finals however, Qing Jiu Club couldn't quite hold on to the level it maintained all day in the group stage. Up against Elevate flawless coordination, and relentless pressure, Qing Jiu Club crumbled.
Qing Jiu Club ended up second place, going home with $170,000. While overall, Qing Jiu Club played great throughout the whole day, especially their win over XROCK in the Semifinals.
This victory not only solidifies Elevate's place as global champions but also represents a monumental achievement for the Philippines in the world of esports, highlighting its emerging presence and ambition on the global stage.
Format of COD: Mobile World Championship 2024
16 of the world's greatest teams competed in COD Mobile World Championship 2024 for a share of the $1 million prize pool. The competition was split into two main stages: the Swiss Stage and the Playoffs.
Playoffs Highlights
Other notable runners-up were China's XROCK, who was initially at the top of the Swiss Stage, and having played extremely well. Their in-form run was curtailed by a closely contested semifinal loss to Qing Jiu Club. They eventually concluded third for a prize money of $80,000. XROCK was definitely a very tough nut to crack for whoever was to face them at the initial stages of the tournament but failed to persist with their excellent run at the last stretch.
Another highlight was Galorys Company of Brazil, who won $80,000.Although they impressed everyone with a tremendous performance in the Playoffs against North America's Luminosity Gaming, Galorys could not break the unstoppable force of Elevate. Nevertheless, the Brazilian side impressed everyone at the international level.
Last year's runners up, India's Team GodLike did not have the rosiest of times this year. Coming off the back of a stellar season in 2023, they were eliminated by XROCK in the Playoffs, to bank in $40,000. With such humongous expectations, Godlike still could not deliver the goods and that proved the end to an otherwise disappointing season.

The competitive COD Mobile scene has seen many dynasties rise and fall, and the 2024 Championship brought yet another evolution for it. For many in the gaming community, Elevate's victory is being celebrated as a significant milestone for Filipino esports.
"Elevate really brought their A-game this year. Their synergy was unmatched, and they totally outplayed Qing Jiu in the Finals," opined one fan on social media. Flawless end to the Swiss Stage and Playoffs gave fans and analysts reasons to praise this team in particular, many thanking them for their superior tactical know-how and seamless collaboration within the group.
Some were quicker to point out the underperformance of some traditionally powerhouse teams. Among the unexpected stories to this tournament had been the untimely elimination of giants such as Team Vitality, Tribe Gaming, and Wolves Esports. "It's shocking to see some teams like Vitality and Tribe not even make it out of the Swiss Stage," said an analyst. The premature re-entries of powerhouses into the other stage have sparked discussions on whether there needs to be a change on the rosters and a new system for the next season.
For the runners-up, Qing Jiu Club, it was a bitter pill to swallow. The player said post-match, "We could have done better. Elevate was the better team today, but we will come back stronger." Despite their disappointment, Qing Jiu showed great sportsmanship and will undoubtedly be a team to watch in future tournaments.
Indian Team’s Performance - Disappointment and Emotional Fallout
For Indian fans, the under performance of Team GodLike and Team Vitality in the COD Mobile World Championship 2024 was an emotional blow. Many had high hopes, especially after GodLike's impressive run in 2023. Their early exits sparked frustration and disappointment across social media, with fans expressing the need for tactical revamps. "We believed this was India's year, but it slipped away," lamented one fan. However, the community remains hopeful, urging teams to regroup and come back stronger, with many still proud of India’s presence on the global stage.
