Fortnite Offers Free Burnoff Skin for Mobile Users Amid Ongoing Controversies

  • May 24, 2025 (UPDATED: May 24, 2025 02:55 IST)

Fortnite offers free Burnoff skin on mobile as legal, AI controversies unfold.

Fortnite players on mobile devices can now unlock the Burnoff skin for free—though the opportunity comes with a notable caveat. Epic Games is offering the cosmetic exclusively to users who log in via iOS or Android platforms. The promotion, available globally, is part of Fortnite’s continued efforts to reconnect with its mobile player base after a prolonged absence from the iOS ecosystem in the United States.

Mobile Comeback Following Legal Dispute

The free Burnoff skin giveaway follows Fortnite’s recent return to iOS in the U.S., marking the end of a lengthy standoff between Epic Games and Apple. The two tech giants had been locked in a legal conflict that effectively barred Fortnite from the App Store for several years. Although Epic initially submitted Fortnite for reinstatement after a court ruling mandated Apple to allow alternative app marketplaces, Apple reportedly resisted by delaying approval and blocking the game’s return globally.

This prompted further legal scrutiny, ultimately leading to Apple being compelled to justify its actions. Following that intervention, Fortnite was finally reinstated, and players can now access the game on iOS devices once again. To celebrate this milestone, Epic Games is offering the Burnoff skin as a mobile login bonus, valid through June 17.

More Free Content: Iridia Vayne Skin via Multiplayer Quests

In addition to the Burnoff promotion, players can also earn the Iridia Vayne skin by engaging in cooperative gameplay. The quest-based event requires participants to team up with friends and accumulate experience points across both Epic-developed game modes and community-created content. This event began on May 23 and will run until June 7. Alongside the Iridia Vayne skin, players can also unlock other cosmetics as part of the rewards structure.

AI Darth Vader Sparks New Lawsuit from SAG-AFTRA

Even as Epic extends these incentives to its community, the company faces new legal challenges—this time centered around artificial intelligence. The Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has taken legal action against Epic Games following the introduction of an AI-generated Darth Vader in the latest "Galactic Battle" mini-season.

The digital Sith Lord not only joins player squads upon defeat but also interacts with them using voice lines powered by artificial intelligence. Players have shared numerous videos showcasing dynamic and often surreal conversations with the AI-driven character. While the feature has been met with enthusiasm by fans for its novelty, the use of AI-generated voice work has raised serious concerns within the entertainment industry, particularly around consent and compensation for performers.

Despite legal headwinds and technological controversy, the recent moves by Epic Games have been largely well-received by the community. The return to iOS has been seen as a major victory for mobile players, and the ongoing Star Wars-themed content continues to draw engagement from fans of the franchise. As Epic pushes the boundaries of interactive storytelling and AI integration, the company also finds itself navigating a complex landscape of legal and ethical responsibilities.
