Epic Games is shutting down Fortnite OG Fan Favorite Mode due to low player count. Find out which regions remain active & what this means for Fortnite OG’s future.
Epic Games has announced that Fortnite's OG Ranked Zero Build servers are getting the axe, starting with multiple servers going offline on March 4. While Fortnite as a whole is still going strong—especially with the recent launch of Chapter 6 Season 2—some of its smaller game modes aren't faring as well.
A Nostalgic Journey Coming to an End
Fortnite OG Season 2 kicked off on January 31, bringing back iconic weapons like the Zapotron and letting longtime fans relive the early days of the game. For newer players, it was a chance to experience what Fortnite was like back in the day. The mode has been a hit, but apparently, not every part of it has been thriving.
Matchmaking Issues Lead to Shutdown
Epic Games took to Twitter to break the news, stating that OG Ranked Zero Build servers will start shutting down on March 4 due to "matchmaking health." However, players in the EU and NAC regions will still be able to access the mode until the season wraps up on March 25. If you're in another region but still want to play, you can switch to the EU or NAC servers without any penalty.
Fans React to the News
As expected, the community had a lot to say about the shutdown. Many focused on the phrase "matchmaking health," taking it as a sign that the mode didn’t have a big enough player base to sustain itself. Fortnite OG made a massive impact when it launched, bringing in over a million players within hours, but Ranked Zero Build was always more of a niche experience.
The Future of Fortnite OG
Even though this particular mode is on its way out, the Fortnite OG experiment has been well-received overall. The OG Item Shop, which even brought back the legendary Renegade Raider skin, has been a big hit. Plus, fans seem to enjoy the shorter seasons and battle passes filled with remixed skins. While OG Ranked Zero Build is shutting down, it looks like Fortnite OG as a whole still has a bright future ahead.
