Fortnite's New Anti-Cheat Measures: Stricter Rules, Legal Action, & Fair Play

Epic Games strengthens Fortnite's anti-cheat with stricter rules, legal action, and fair play.

Epic Games announces a major revision in the anti-cheat project in Fortnite, expressing its commitment to fair and healthy competition in the gaming center. Cheating is on the rise, not only disrupting the gameplay but also providing an impetus for the company to raise the bar for its anti-cheating measures. This revised anti-cheating policy involves lawsuits, stricter hardware requirements, and the establishment of modified punishment systems for rule violators.

Legal Action Against Cheaters and Cheat Sellers

Epic Games is intensifying its legal battle against hackers and cheat distributors. Lawsuits have been filed against individuals involved in hacking, account theft, and cheat distribution. The most significant victory came when Epic finally succeeded in putting pressure on Cronus to take down Fortnite and Rocket League cheat packs from their website. Furthermore, the use of external hardware devices, such as Cronus devices, is banned for fair play in-game. Anyone caught using such tools would receive immediate banning with no severity scale.

Enhanced Security Requirements for Competitive Play

To promote equitable competition, Fortnite is applying new system conditions on PC players who compete in tournaments. Competitors are now required to activate TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and Secure Boot, the two security measures that protect against unauthorized changes and malware from tampering with game files. Players are also required to achieve an account level of at least 350 to be able to compete in competitive play so that only serious and experienced players compete in high-pressure games.

A Second Chance for First-Time Offenders

Epic Games recently changed the banning method to provide a second chance to first-time cheaters. Starting in April 2025, first-time offenders will have a one-year matchmaking ban instead of a permanent ban. However, during this season, affected players retain access to features like login, text, and voice chat, although they cannot join matchmaking on either the Epic-created or community-made game modes.  However, repeat offenders will receive a permanent, irreversible ban with no opportunity for appeal.

Additionally, Epic is revising its past enforcement policies by lifting lifetime bans on players who have been banned for over a year provided they did not engage in selling cheats or committing severe infractions. This policy change recognizes that players can grow up while having tight controls against atrocious abuses.

Premium Prevention and Detection of Cheats

Epic continues to develop better anti-cheat technology to render cheating hard. Epic is using Easy Anti-Cheat's kernel driver and sophisticated machine learning algorithms, coupled with statistical analysis, to help detect unusual activity. This will strengthen Fortnite's core mechanics and will ensure that cheaters are caught and removed faster, before they can truly ruin the game.
