FragPunk Set for Console Launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S After Delay

The tactical hero shooter FragPunk is officially headed to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on April 29, 2025. The release follows a short delay from its initially planned console launch, which was pushed back due to technical complications during certification.

Developed by Bad Guitar and published by NetEase, the console versions faced setbacks related to optimization and system compliance. Rather than releasing an unfinished product, the team opted to prioritize the polished PC launch. Despite the absence of console support at the outset, FragPunk saw an impressive debut on PC, drawing over 100,000 concurrent players at its peak.

Console players will not be left behind in terms of content. NetEase has confirmed that all engagement rewards from Season 1 will be made available to new console players. Those who preordered will also receive a $10 in-game currency bonus, along with the previously announced pre-order incentives.

The game's roadmap suggests ongoing updates, with plans to introduce additional game modes, characters known as Lancers, and new card mechanics to maintain replayability. One standout feature in the current season includes a mode inspired by "infection" gameplay styles, named Outbreak.

Cross-platform functionality is a major part of FragPunk’s future. Players will be able to maintain their progress across platforms and enjoy cross-play, ensuring a unified experience regardless of device.

However, the journey so far hasn't been without criticism. Upon release, players voiced concerns over the game's monetization strategy. The presence of multiple in-game currencies—nine in total—alongside two subscription services has drawn attention. While such models are standard in free-to-play ecosystems, some fans believe FragPunk leans too heavily on its premium offerings.

As the console release nears, NetEase appears focused on expanding the game's player base while responding to feedback. With new content updates planned and cross-platform systems in place, FragPunk aims to secure its place in the competitive shooter genre.
