From $50 Brawlers to Free Events: Brawl Stars Finally Listens to Its Community

  • India Today Gaming
  • July 06, 2025 (UPDATED: July 06, 2025 15:05 IST)

Brawl Stars finally responds to backlash—no more $50 Brawlers, Mastery replacements, and free events in the latest game-changing update.

Brawl Stars just made a move no-one expected. Accountability — a move that seems rarer than good air in delhi. “The last update missed the mark.” was the general consensus in the community, after all from $50 early-access Brawlers to the sudden death of Masteries, the game’s latest direction sparked more backlash than hype.

Now, the devs are backpedaling hard and this time, they’re bringing actual change. Let’s get into it.

No More Paywalled Brawlers

Let’s start with the elephant in the room: Trunk. The Ultra Legendary Brawler locked behind a $50 price tag was the final straw for many. The idea? A deeper, more complex Brawler justified a premium.

The reality? Community outrage.

In response, Supercell confirmed Trunk will be the last IAP locked Brawler ever. From the next release onward, all players will be able to unlock new Brawlers through gameplay— even during early access.

The Fix For Masteries

Masteries were quietly removed, and for a lot of players, it felt like a betrayal. They gave purpose to grinding, rewarded skill, and offered a clear progression path.

The devs say Masteries were confusing, grindy, and underutilized by newer players. But removing them without a solid replacement? That stung.

To compensate, the Battle Pass will now include rewards that match Legendary Mastery tracks:

  • 3,000 Coins

  • 450 Power Points

  • 300 Credits

And unlike Masteries, these won’t require hours of repetition to unlock.

Improvements To Records?

Records were supposed to fill the gap left by Masteries. Instead, they launched in a stripped down, grind heavy state. Even the devs admit it—they pushed out the simplest version just to meet a deadline.

Now they’re giving:

  • More Records (and rewards) in future updates

  • Some grindy goals may be swapped (like wins to Star Player)

  • UI improvements and progress tracking are on the table

  • Community suggestions are being taken seriously

Events Are About to Pop Off

Starting Thursday, expect an event explosion to help boost F2P progression:

  • Mortis community event

  • Unlimited Lives Challenge (with a free skin)

  • Mega Pig

  • Hypercharge Unleashed (less grind)

  • Angels vs. Demons returns with better pacing and rewards

More events = more rewards = less burnout. It’s a simple fix, but a welcome one.

The devs now admit what many players already felt: random rewards alone aren’t enough. Starr Drops may have slowed player decline, but they don’t offer the satisfaction of guaranteed rewards.

Going forward, Brawl Stars promises a better mix. Expect more earned rewards, clearer goals, and fewer moments where luck wins over effort.

This update was messy. But this response? It’s what caring for the community looks like.cNo more IAP paywalls. A reworked Battle Pass. Better events. Fixes to Records. And above all, a genuine effort to meet players halfway. It’s not perfect but atleast... it's a start
