Gawr Gura, a popular VTuber and one of the first members of Hololive English, has announced she’s leaving the agency, ending an important chapter in the world of virtual entertainment.
Gawr Gura, one of the most popular VTubers and a founding member of Hololive English, has announced she’s leaving the agency. In a livestream called “Important Announcement,” she explained that she decided to leave because of creative differences with management and the company’s changing direction.
Final Livestream and Farewell
Her final livestream will be on May 1, 2025. During it, she’ll say goodbye and celebrate the great memories she’s made with her fans over the past five years. Although it’s a sad moment, the community is coming together to honor Gura’s amazing legacy and the joy she’s brought to millions.
Gura started in September 2020 and quickly became popular in the VTubing world. Fans loved her funny personality, shark-themed character, and catchy phrases. She built a strong connection with people around the world. Gura also showed her talent by joining concerts, conventions, and working with other creators online.
Hololive's Statement
Hololive Production shared the news on their official X account (formerly Twitter), thanking Gura for her work and the fans for their support. They said the decision was emotional but that they respect Gura’s choice and wish her the best in the next part of her journey.
Gura’s departure is part of a bigger trend, with more members leaving lately. In Hololive English, Amelia Watson, Ceres Fauna, Nanashi Mumei, and Tsukumo Sana have also announced they’re leaving. On the Japanese side, members like Murasaki Shion and Sakamata Chloe have stepped down too.
Concerns Over Content Direction
Each graduation has its own reasons, but many members share concerns about changes in content direction. There’s growing pressure to focus more on idol-like appearances and brand deals, rather than the casual, interactive streaming style that fans originally loved. In response to this, Hololive CEO Motoaki "Yagoo" Tanigo made a statement in March, promising to improve communication and support for talents in the future.
As the VTubing world keeps changing, Gura’s impact will be remembered as a key moment in the rise of virtual entertainers. As her time in Hololive ends, fans around the world are coming together to say one last heartfelt "thank you”.
