Valorant's 9.06 patch introduces a player blocking feature, letting you avoid toxic players by blocking their messages, voice chat, and party invites. Learn how to block players and manage your in-game interactions effectively.

Riot Games has finally added the long-awaited functionality of player blocking in Valorant's 9.06 patch. By blocking them from speaking in several ways, this new tool aims to assist players in avoiding unwelcome interactions with toxic players.

What Does Blocking Do in Valorant?

When you block a player in Valorant, they can no longer:

  • Send you messages through text chat.
  • Communicate with you via voice chat.
  • Send you party invites or friend requests.
  • Blocking is a permanent action unless you choose to unblock the player later.
  • You can block an unlimited number of players, making it a powerful tool for managing your in-game interactions.

How to Block a Player in Valorant:

Blocking a player is straightforward:

  • Go to the Careers Page: From the main menu, navigate to the careers page to view your recent matches.
  • Find the Player: Click on the match where you encountered the player you wish to block. This will take you to the match summary.
  • Access the Scoreboard: Go to the scoreboard tab within the match summary.
  • Block the Player: Right-click on the player's name, select "Block," and confirm the action.
  • Limitations of the Blocking Feature:
  • While blocking a player prevents them from communicating with you, it does not prevent them from appearing in the same match as you. Unfortunately, this means that you could still end up in the same lobby or even on the same team as a blocked player.

This is not the same as Blizzard's Overwatch 2 system, which allows users to pin up to 15 other players to completely avoid waiting in line with them.

As of right now, blocking is the greatest way to reduce unwanted contacts in Valorant and other Riot Games games. Riot Games has not yet disclosed any plans to introduce a comparable avoid system in any of their other games.

While this feature helps players avoid toxic conduct in-game, which is a great way to improve their experience, it doesn't provide a complete avoidance mechanism like other competitive games provide. There is no game without the presence of toxic players, so having a blocking feature is very useful in case you don't want to cross paths with them again. Riot has done a wonderful job by adding this important feature, keeping our fingers crossed for a replay system soon!
