How to Unlock “The Thong” Skin for The Thing in Marvel Rivals Summer Event

The Sunshine Thing skin puts The Thing (Ben Grimm) into a very bold beach look, just a bright Speedo and a flower necklace. After people saw it, most of them started calling it “The Thong” pretty fast. It received enormous publicity on the internet and not only about the costume. The internet has been filled with several memes and humorous responses due to this.

When and Where You Can Unlock “The Thong” Skin

The Thing’s new skin is included in the Summer Special event, which begins on July 17, 2025, 2 AM PT and lasts until August 15, 2025, 2 AM PT. That provides players with a bit less than a month to obtain it. There are also a bunch of swimsuit-type skins in the event. Not only The Thing, but also other characters like Thor, Luna Snow, Psylocke, and even Loki. 

How to Unlock Sunshine Thing

 

• Buy the Premium Pass: First step, you gotta buy the Summer Special premium track. It’s kind of like a mini battle pass. It costs about 690 Lattice, which is close to $7 USD.
• Play Matches to Earn XP: Then you just play matches, and XP adds up. From what most guides say, the Thong skin shows up super early, maybe even right after the first reward tier. So you don’t need to grind for too long to get it.
• Reach About 1500 Points: That’s the rough estimate of points needed. After that, go check your inventory screen, and you’ll find the Sunshine Thing skin there ready to equip. Also, you get a nameplate, emotes, and some sprays related to the skin along the way.

What Else Do You Get

• Worthy Waves Thor: This one is part of the free track and unlocks somewhere around level 14.
• Cool Summer Luna Snow: You get this on the premium path, and it comes with new VFX and a special MVP animation that’s quite flashy.

Other than that, you’ll also be picking up lots of smaller items, emoji bundles, sprays, unstable molecules, and nameplates. Both free and paid players get stuff during the event.

If you’re planning to flex The Thing in a summer outfit that’s hard to forget, this is your time. The skin shows up early in the past, and unlocking it won’t take much effort if you’re active. You also get some fun cosmetics for other heroes, so the Premium Pass kind of gives a lot of value.
