KRAFTON Rebrands Dark and Darker Mobile as Abyss of Dungeons

Dark and Darker Mobile got rebranded into Abyss of Dungeons, and this marks an important milestone in the game's development. The developers announced this rebranding today through the game's social media to forge the new identity while preserving the core gameplay that their fans have known and loved.

End of Ironmace Partnership

The name change comes on the heels of KRAFTON no longer maintaining an IP licensing agreement with Ironmace, the makers of Dark and Darker in its original form. While rumours had been circulating for several months now, this move puts an end to the speculation and makes it official: The companies have parted ways. Whilst KRAFTON assures players that Abyss of Dungeons is still "the same game under a new banner," we are free to take that at our discretion.

Another Name With More Lore

The new name was decided by KRAFTON to properly portray the dark fantasy tone and the growing lore for the game. The game has been in production since the original licensing agreement and is being developed by Bluehole Studio, one of KRAFTON's subsidiaries. Even after that expired, the game remained in production fully under KRAFTON's direction, but now with a tighter creative vision. 

Soft Launch and Regional Expansions 

Currently, Abyss of Dungeons is in soft launch across Canada and the United States. KRAFTON has also announced a regional expansion with the game launching in Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, and Mexico on June 11, 2025. These territories will be the first to experience the new title and the intense PvPvE dungeon crawling. 

Global Launch Plans and Updates

The app stores were still listing it by its original name when we checked recently, but we'll probably see app updates shortly reflecting the rebrand. As for global availability and release date, KRAFTON still has to announce this definitive information, but continues to focus on giving the world a launch in the first half of 2025.

If anything, the change of name will take some time for fans to adapt to; Abyss of Dungeons, on the other hand, marks KRAFTON's resolve to give a game name on its own. With deep combat, world-building, and mobile-first design, the game is ready to usher the series into the lore, one dungeon at a time.
