LEGO and Pokémon partner for 2026, ending Mattel's deal and bringing new buildable sets for fans.

The LEGO Group has officially confirmed a multi-year partnership with The Pokémon Company, marking the beginning of an exciting new venture that will bring Pokémon into the world of LEGO. The announcement follows a teaser video that surfaced online but was swiftly removed, leading to widespread speculation. Shortly after, the LEGO website’s themes section was updated to reflect the inclusion of Pokémon, solidifying the collaboration’s legitimacy.

Pokémon Ends Licensing Deal with Mattel’s Mega Bloks

This partnership signals a major shift in the Pokémon franchise’s licensing agreements. Until now, Mattel held the rights to produce Pokémon-themed building sets under its Mega Bloks brand. The new LEGO deal is expected to bring an end to Pokémon’s long-standing association with Mattel, allowing LEGO to take the reins in delivering buildable Pokémon experiences. The upcoming sets, scheduled for release in 2026, will give fans a fresh way to engage with their favorite pocket monsters through LEGO’s signature brick-based format.

LEGO and Pokémon Executives Highlight Shared Vision

Both companies have expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing their shared commitment to creativity and imaginative play. Julia Goldin, LEGO’s Chief Product & Marketing Officer, stated that this partnership will open new doors for both Pokémon Trainers and LEGO builders. Gaku Susai, Chief Product and Experience Officer at The Pokémon Company International, reinforced this idea, highlighting that both brands share values of fun, engagement, and innovative experiences for fans worldwide.

In addition to this LEGO collaboration, Pokémon continues to make waves across the entertainment and gaming industries. The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is now facing increasing competition from Digimon, while Scopely recently made a significant move by acquiring Pokémon GO developer Niantic in a $3.5 billion deal. These developments further solidify Pokémon’s influence in both gaming and merchandising, ensuring its continued dominance in the industry.
