Ludwig Addresses VTuber Backlash but Plans to Continue, Here’s What Happened

  • February 25, 2025 (UPDATED: February 25, 2025 23:29 IST)

Ludwig responds to VTuber backlash after his cat-boy debut and confirms plans to continue.

Popular streamer Ludwig Ahgren recently made his debut as a VTuber, but not without stirring up controversy. Some members of the VTuber community criticized his approach, accusing him of not respecting the culture. Despite the backlash, Ludwig defended his VTuber model and confirmed that he plans to continue using it.

Ludwig’s VTuber Debut and the Controversy

The VTuber industry has grown significantly over the years, with creators like Ironmouse even surpassing mainstream Twitch streamers in subscriptions—until Kai Cenat eventually reclaimed the top spot.

Ludwig entered the VTuber scene on February 23, 2025, following a gaming challenge loss to Ironmouse three years ago. His debut featured a cat-boy-themed VTuber model, which he revealed in a highly anticipated stream across Twitch and YouTube, drawing massive attention.

While many fans welcomed his VTuber persona, others in the community were less receptive. One of the most vocal critics, VTuber Momma Occo, took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disapproval, saying:

"We need to gatekeep against people that would bastardize a medium. Ludwig, you are not welcome in the VTuber community."

This sparked a heated debate about whether mainstream content creators should participate in VTubing without being deeply involved in its culture. While some argued that Ludwig respected VTuber traditions during his debut, others dismissed his entry as a gimmick rather than a genuine attempt to engage with the community.

Ludwig’s Response to the Backlash

In response to the criticism, Ludwig addressed the controversy on X, stating:

"I think VTubers are cool and tried my best during my debut stream. I know I don’t understand as much as native VTubers, so I tried to make it faithful to what a debut stream should be while also making it fun for my regular audience."

He also defended his VTuber design, saying he "massively disagrees" with those who criticized it.

What’s Next for Ludwig as a VTuber?

Despite the mixed reception, Ludwig confirmed he will continue using his VTuber model in future streams. His presence in the VTuber space adds a new dynamic, especially as VTuber agencies like Nijisanji and indie VTubers continue to shape the industry.

As Ludwig explores this new side of content creation, his involvement raises questions about whether VTubing will remain a niche community or become more accessible to mainstream creators. One thing is clear Ludwig isn’t backing down anytime soon.
