Marvel Rivals' Season 1.5 update introduces the Hidden Name feature to prevent target bans, hero balancing changes, and new playable characters—The Thing & Human Torch. Learn all the latest details!
Marvel Rivals just dropped its Season 1.5 update, and it’s packed with hero balancing changes, new characters, and a fresh feature designed to stop “target bans” in competitive play. While a ranked reset was originally on the table, the devs scrapped that idea after player backlash. But one major update that’s sticking around is the Hidden Name feature—though it comes with a catch.
Hidden Name Feature: No More Target Bans… Sort Of
In a recent video update on X (formerly Twitter), Lead Combat Designer Zhiyong announced the Hidden Name feature for high-ranked players. This new system aims to stop opponents from banning specific heroes just to counter known high-level players.
How It Works
- Available at Diamond 3 and above – Only players at this rank or higher can use it.
- Hides your username – Your name won’t be visible during the loading screen, hero selection, or the start of the match.
- Reveals after a short time – Your identity won’t stay hidden forever—it pops back up shortly after the match begins.
Why This Matters
Marvel Rivals lets players ban two heroes per match, and at higher ranks, players have started banning specific heroes just to mess with known opponents. Since some players heavily specialize in one hero, this makes competitive matches feel unfair. The Hidden Name feature should prevent these targeted bans—at least for a little while.
Community Reactions: W or L?
The Marvel Rivals community is mostly on board with this change, with many calling it a “massive W” and even suggesting that the feature should stay enabled for the entire match.
However, not everyone is thrilled. Some players feel like this update will just encourage one-tricking and instalocking DPS characters, which could make team comps more frustrating.
What Else Is in the Season 1.5 Update?
Alongside this feature, the update brings balancing changes for almost every hero, plus the addition of The Thing and Human Torch as new playable characters. With more tweaks to come, it’ll be interesting to see how the meta shifts moving forward.
