Minecraft Teases Smurfs Crossover Ahead of 2025 Movie With Skins, Maps & More

Minecraft hints at an exciting Smurfs crossover featuring skins, custom maps, and more. This is just in time for the new 2025 Smurfs movie release.
Looks like Minecraft players might be in for a weird little surprise soon. Mojang’s latest teaser on X (you know, formerly Twitter) hinted at something blue and tiny coming to the game. A pixelated shape, clearly looking like a Smurf, was posted alongside a mushroom emoji and a cryptic message that said, “The village is about to look different.” It also tagged the new Smurfs movie, so it’s not hard to guess what’s going on here.
Confirmed News?
While Mojang hasn’t confirm anything officially, fans are already speculating wildly online. If it ends up being like other recent crossovers (like How to Train Your Dragon or even the one for A Minecraft Movie earlier this year), we’re probably gonna see skins, themed characters, and maybe even a custom Smurf Village map. Some people even wondering if size mechanics might get added, letting players “shrink” to Smurf-size. That could be chaotic but interesting.
There’s also some confusion around whether this will be for Java or Bedrock or both. Most of Mojang’s big collabs lately came through the Minecraft Marketplace, which would mean it’ll hit Bedrock for sure. Hopefully Java too, but nothing’s confirmed.
Community reactions have been, well, mixed. Some are excited, calling it “cute and nostalgic.” Others joked that “blue villagers are suspicious.” But overall it’s another quirky summer crossover that follows up the “Chase the Skies” update, where we got rideable ghasts and more camera features.
The Smurfs movie is dropping mid-July, and if timing lines up, then we might see this crossover hit Minecraft not long after. No official release date or trailer yet though, so that’s a bit frustrating.
Even if the new Smurfs film wasn’t exactly well received (some say it’s one of 2025’s worst), the Minecraft crossover might still be a fun add-on for players who enjoy cute little themed stuff. Kids will probably love it, and creative builders can go wild with mushroom houses and tiny forests.
