Genshin Impact’s upcoming endgame mode introduces extreme difficulty levels, raising concerns about accessibility and balance for casual players.
According to a datamined leak, this game will introduce a tough endgame era, called “Stygian Onslaught” or “Perilous Impact,” on June 18, 2025, available in version 5.7. According to reports, the mode will contain 5 difficulty levels: Normal, Hard, Fearless, Extreme, and Mortal, and completing the last requires near perfect teamwork, great builds, and a lot of time.
Although this content is supposed to entertain seasoned players, it may leave a big section of the game’s community behind. Anyone who knows the Spiral Abyss understands that it tests team strength and how characters interact in the game. This update looks set to make challenges much greater, so only the top players are expected to succeed.
People are concerned that the gap between top gamers and the rest will get larger. If you want to conquer higher difficulties, you’ll need to spend many hours upgrading your artifacts, leveling talents, and forming excellent teams for several elements, something that’s usually described as an option, but actually just necessary if you want to stay in the top tiers.

HoYoverse’s earlier remarks about anxiety arising from new endgame systems have made fans more worried. The creators have found out that some players are either tired or upset by the RNG and tough resource requirements in artifact crafting . Some people claim that this system could exclude new players and convert their optional exploration into something compulsory.
Looking at it from another angle, while veterans may be thrilled by Mortal, most players will discover that the difficulty level is beyond their skills. Because Perilous Impact needs a lot of time to learn, uses high-grade materials, and presents a significant challenge, it may be Genshin’s way of giving first priority to skilled players alone.
