Obsidian Reveals Outer Worlds 2 Release Date During Xbox Showcase 2025

Obsidian Entertainment has finally set a release date on The Outer Worlds 2, revealing during Xbox Games Showcase 2025 that the long-awaited RPG sequel will arrive October 29. With the new trailer revealing all kinds of weird and wonderful stuff, it's looking to be just as crazy and over-the-top as ever.

This year's Xbox Games Showcase, likely the largest yearly event for Microsoft, had its standard combination of game announcements, Game Pass news, and a couple of surprises. Although The Outer Worlds 2 wasn't a surprise reveal, the announcement of its release date certainly added a boost to the show. The trailer also looks at the game's newer tools, characters, and larger interstellar messes to sweep up—or be a part of, depending on the outcome. 

Multiplatform Release Confirmed, But Switch 2 Left Hanging

Obsidian mentioned that The Outer Worlds 2 will be launching for the next-gen consoles like Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC. Nothing is said about a Nintendo's next-generation console version, which could be Switch 2. Nothing on that as of yet, so the fans on that system will just have to wait and see what takes place.

More Info Expected Soon, Hints at New Themes and Systems

Though the Xbox presentation only gave us a quick look, a full showcase focused on The Outer Worlds 2 is still expected. What was shown suggested a continuation of the series’ offbeat tone, with weird weapons and plots circling corporate greed, space democracy, and probably some strange alien creatures too. The sequel seems to be aiming for a larger world with more systems, story paths, and wild encounters.

With the launch date coming on October 29, it won't be much longer until players get to dive back into the wild and vibrant sci-fi world that Obsidian is famous for. And even if all of our questions weren't answered today, it's obvious that there's much more on the horizon.
