Overwatch 2 Competitive Drives: Community Reactions and Future Updates

  • October 08, 2024 (UPDATED: October 08, 2024 11:59 IST)

Explore the mixed reactions to Overwatch 2’s Competitive Drives feature, offering high-stakes ranked matches with exclusive rewards. Learn about player feedback and potential future adjustments.

Overwatch 2 has unveiled its Competitive Drives feature, and this one has got mixed reactions to the people. Of course, there are fans for the very strict games, while others have had enough of it at times with their very experience.

A Brief Run for Big Rewards

Launching on October 4, the Competitive Drives finally opened its gates to let players play through a short window of rank climbing until October 7 and enjoy exclusive rewards. It added a twist: loss might bring you back and thus make every game feel one played with stakes. Such a change was quite intense for players who mainly were accustomed to a more casual atmosphere.

Love It or Hate It?

The community's response has been all over the place. Some players noticed an improvement in match quality as the event went along. One player reported that while their early matches were a little rough, things quickly turned around:

"The first day was actually hell. But by the end, I had played more ranked than I had in months, and I could feel my games getting better.".

Others agreed with the same sentiment, noting that the drives had them training and having more fun playing ranked mode than they had in a long time.

Not Everyone's a Fan

The experience wasn't exactly enjoyable for all kudos. Competitive players found it frustrating, at times, especially when facing casuals. After all, these users are generally known for sticking to Quickplay:

"No shade to 80% of the player base, but I am seriously not enjoying having my Comp games filled with Quickplay warriors."

For them, the event felt like an unwelcome disruption to the competitive ladder.

What's Next for Competitive Drives?

Though Competitive Drives has come to a close, it is more than clear now that Blizzard has all the feedback it needs to sift through. Players can expect some tweaks and adjustments before the next iteration, and perhaps we might get some more insight from the devs in an upcoming Director's Take blog.

You loved it; you hated it, but one thing that stands is clear: The Competitive Drives sparked and are going to keep fueling the conversation inside the community, and here's hoping that the team behind Overwatch 2 has this reason to make future events even better.
