VCT Masters Toronto saw a wide range of pistol round performances. From Gen.G’s dominant 75% win rate to Paper Rex’s 44% despite winning the event.
Paper Rex may have lifted the trophy at VCT Masters Toronto, but one stat from the tournament has stunned fans and analysts alike. As per one interesting observation from a Reddit user, LoanPresidentSalmon, Paper Rex had one of the worst pistol win rates, finishing with just 44% across 34 pistol rounds (15 wins out of 34). In fact, among all participating teams, PRX ranked in the bottom five for pistol round performance.
PRX Wins VCT Toronto With Just 44% Pistol Rate While Gen.G, Liquid, Fnatic Dominate Early Rounds
To put things in perspective, Gen.G, who had a strong tournament run as well, led the pack with an impressive 75% win rate in pistols (18/24). Team Liquid followed close behind at 69% (11/16), and Fnatic sat at 58% (22/38). Even teams like Wolves Esports (53%), Bilibili Gaming (50%), and XERXIA (50%) performed significantly better in this category. PRX's rate was nearly on par with Sentinels (46%), but slightly ahead of EDward Gaming (40%) and T1 (39%). The real outliers, though, were FUT (13%) and MIBR (0%), who couldn’t win a single pistol round (0/8).
It’s honestly fascinating. Winning a major international tournament like VCT Masters typically involves strong fundamentals, pistol rounds. Those rounds often set the pace for a half and can swing momentum. But Paper Rex seemed to defy that logic completely.
In fact, as pointed out by fans, PRX now holds the lowest pistol round win rate of any team to ever win a Masters tournament. Even more interesting is that their previous runs, where they had better pistol win rates, didn’t result in titles. It’s almost ironic the lower their pistol win rate, the better their placement.
PRX didn’t rely on strong starts; they thrived in gun rounds, where their explosive aggression and unpredictable playstyle often overwhelmed opponents. Their mid- to late-round executions were consistently sharp, and they bounced back hard after losing pistols, often winning eco or force-buy rounds that most teams would struggle with.
Still, with a 44% pistol win rate, there’s definitely room for improvement. And if PRX manages to tighten up those early rounds, their future opponents might be in even bigger trouble.
