Path of Exile 2 Reveals Data Breach of Confidential Data

The publisher of Path of Exile 2, Grinding Gear Games, has revealed the breach of confidential data, which happened sometime on January 6, 2025, or the following week. This leakage was because a developer's account was compromised as an old Steam account that was formerly used to test patches. Consequently, the player's email addresses, Steam IDs, IP addresses, and other information were leaked.

The breach was revealed last week after the workers noticed unauthorized access to their administrator tool. Immediately transactions took place in the form of closing down the compromised account and reinforcing password change measures on all other administrator accounts. Still, the damage has caused at least a minimum of 66 accounts to be affected by these hackers, changing passwords and stealing valuable merchandise from the in-game stores.

Grinding Gear Games confirms their apology has been submitted and outlined some steps to improve security, such as stricter IP limitations and disallowance of third-party accounts to be connected to the company's personnel. Developers also worked closely to identify and refer to as many players as they possibly could. 

Gamers feel so bad and helpless as they go over the damage and remove the potentiality to play their favourite games at Grinding Gear Games, so severe was this incident. A number of their tools have been stolen, and the user accounts were lost, Grinding Gear Games explained. The company is working on changing its security architecture to safeguard player data.
