Players of Marvel Rivals are expressing concerns over Spider-Man's uppercut hitbox, which seems to extend beyond his physical reach.
Since its release nearly three weeks ago, Marvel Rivals has captured the attention of many players with its dynamic hero-based gameplay. However, some issues with character abilities, especially Spider-Man’s uppercut attack, have stirred debate within the community. Players are raising concerns over the attack's unusually large hitbox, which seems to extend far beyond Spider-Man's physical reach, leading to frustrations regarding its fairness and balance.
Spider-Man’s Uppercut Attack Under Fire
Spider-Man is one hero that has proven to be among the most difficult to master in Marvel Rivals. His unparalleled movement skills-in particular, crawling on a wall and swinging through the entire environment-allow him strategic uses, but this is counter balanced by a tough skill requirement. While most of Spider-Man's moves require a lot of practice, one exceptional move called the jumping uppercut has been a favorite among most players for being very difficult to counter. Many have pointed out that the attack appears to land from an unexpectedly long distance, causing confusion and dissatisfaction among those who feel the hitbox is too generous.
Someone uploaded a video to a Reddit thread under the pseudonym Alaskan-Bull-Worm, revealing Spider-Man's uppercut, which exhibits distance in the damaged area. Those hit by the blow stand many feet away from the impact. More criticism has arisen from players because the hitbox does not reflect the preciseness intended for the other characters' moves.
Complaints About Consistency in Character Abilities
The disproportionate effectiveness of Spider-Man's uppercut compared to other heroes’ attacks has prompted additional concerns. Players have noticed that characters like Magik and Black Widow require a lot of precision and are thus not as rewarding as characters whose moves are easier to connect to. For example, Magik's uppercut does very little damage when it does connect, while Black Widow's kick usually misses the target altogether. Because of these inconsistencies, some players are rethinking their decisions and some have even dropped Magik as a main character because her abilities are less effective.

Wider Balance Issues in Marvel Rivals Are Stirring Debate
While Spider-Man's uppercut has become one of the focal points of discontent, it is not the only move under scrutiny. The ultimate of Jeff the Land Shark is the greatest ability which allows him to gulp opponents and toss them out of the map from within is quite alarming with the potential to generate effortlessly stacked kills. Players, of course, have been attempting designs against Jeff's ultimate skill, but NetEase seems to have fully embraced its might-even putting an event titled "Jeff's Winter Splash," where players are encouraged to use Jeff's ultimate for map coverage competition, highlighting its impact on the game's dynamics.
However, the balance issues have raised a flag for NetEase, and it clearly has to rethink character abilities and adjustments for a major possible leveling of its popular game. The players are calling for extra round of rebalancing as they hope for changes that will make the game even fairer and more competitive than it already is.
