PlayStation Stars Is Shutting Down — Here’s What Happens Next

  • India Today Gaming
  • May 22, 2025 (UPDATED: May 22, 2025 13:30 IST)

Sony is ending its PlayStation Stars loyalty program by November 2026, stopping new memberships in May 2025. Find out what this means for players and what might come next.

Sony is officially pulling the plug on its loyalty program, PlayStation Stars. The program, which first launched in 2022 to celebrate players by rewarding gameplay with unique Digital Collectibles and points redeemable for rewards, is being discontinued as Sony Interactive Entertainment shifts focus to “evolving future loyalty efforts.” While that sounds like a fancy way of saying “we’re reworking things,” here’s what it actually means for players.

What Will Happen To Your PlayStation Star Membership?

As of May 21, 2025, PlayStation Stars will stop accepting new members. If you’re already a member, you can continue to earn points, level up your status, and unlock Digital Collectibles — but only until July 23, 2025 at 7:59 AM PDT | 3:59 PM BST | 11:59 PM JST. After that date, no new campaigns or rewards will be available.

If you decide to cancel your membership starting today, keep in mind you won’t be able to rejoin this version of the program, and all your earned points will be lost.

The program will fully end on November 2, 2026, which is also your last chance to redeem any unexpired points for rewards like PSN credit.

What About Your Collectibles and Points?

Sony confirmed that any Digital Collectibles you’ve already unlocked will remain tied to your account even after the program ends. However, since PlayStation Stars won’t be updated or supported beyond 2026, there’s no guarantee how long these collectibles will stay relevant — especially as PlayStation moves toward future console generations.

What’s Next?

At the moment, Sony hasn’t announced a replacement loyalty program. They’re reviewing what worked well and exploring new ways to approach loyalty, but there’s no timeline or details yet. Whether that means a rebranded system, tighter PlayStation Plus integration, or something entirely new, only time will tell. A move, many users are not happy with.

If you have points saved up, now’s the time to spend them. And if you were hoping to sign up late — that window’s officially closed.
