POEM EX MACHINA Announced: Fast-Paced Rhythmic Action Game Coming to PC in 2025

Dive into POEM EX MACHINA, a rhythmic hack-and-slash action game blending poetry and combat, launching on PC in late 2025 with a free demo coming soon.

So, Amaury Hyde has revealed their upcoming project, POEM EX MACHINA, which is a kind of different type of action game set to launch on PC through Steam by the end of 2025. The game looks like it’s going to blend poetry and high-speed action in a very unique way that people probably haven’t quite seen before.

It was shown off for the first time at the recent Indie Future Fest 2025, with a trailer that included intense combat, flashy movement, and strange poetic phrases being read in the background. It’s already reminding some fans of games like Devil May Cry or Furi, but it got its own vibe too that’s harder to explain easily.

Combat That’s Fast and Based on Rhythm, Too

At its center, POEM EX MACHINA plays like a stylish action game. The player is going to control someone called Lyra, who is a poet but also fights enemies in a world that is kind of falling apart. The enemies aren’t just regular monsters—they’re made out of broken language and weird emotions, or at least that’s what it seems like from what we seen.

What makes the fighting special is something the developers call “Verse Chain” system, which is where you attack in time with the music and it builds up into stronger attacks. Each enemy actually connects to a type of poem, and figuring out how the rhythm works is key to beating them.

POEM EX MACHINA: Storytelling That’s Abstract and Maybe a Bit Strange

This game isn’t telling a normal story. Instead of regular talking, all the lines in the game are done like poetry, sometimes even hard to understand. It takes place inside an AI library that fell apart, and everything is about language dying and text becoming corrupted. It’s kind of philosophical, but also mysterious.

The team behind it, especially the lead designer Elena Mori, says it’s like a “combat opera” that happens in a machine’s mind. Every big enemy, or boss, is based on a different poetry format—there’s ones that use haiku, others in sonnet or no structure at all.

Excitement Builds with Demo Coming Later

A lot of indie game fans have already taken interest in this one. Some people say it’s doing something new, which is refreshing. The studio confirmed there will be a free demo on Steam later this year, probably in Q4 2025, with the complete game releasing in the winter.

It’s going to come out first in English, Spanish, and Japanese, with translations that try to keep the poetry style instead of just translating normally.

Final Thoughts

POEM EX MACHINA might not be for everyone, but for people who like action and want something deeper or more artistic, this one could be something really worth checking out.
