REPO Launches May 2025 Beta Update with Photon Blaster and More

REPO's May 2025 beta update adds new gear, upgrades, and fixes for smoother gameplay.

Semiwork's cooperative sci-fi game REPO has released a new beta update for May 2025, providing players with fresh tools, mechanics, and quality-of-life features. The flagship version of the game has not received significant additions over the past few months, but this beta patch is meant to inject life into the gameplay experience through new experimental features that are likely to move to the full release soon.

Leading the update is a new weapon known as the Photon Blaster, a mobile, portable version of the game's well-known cart-mounted laser. Preliminary testing indicates that, given damage values are proportional to its mounted variant, the Photon Blaster should deal 50 to 65 damage per beam strike, providing players with a formidable new ranged choice.

Traversal and Mobility Changes Make Exploration Better

The update also introduces new traversal tools to the game's sandbox worlds. The Phase Bridge is one such addition, an energy construct that can be used by players to bridge gaps between areas or use as a ladder. This capability is opening up new ways for players to traverse REPO's multi-level maps and is a useful mobility tool as well as a tactical creative choice.

In an even more whimsical extension, players can now get their hands on Tumble Wings, a brand new upgrade that literally gives them wings. Not like the standard tumble move, Tumble Wings permit players to glide in mid-air, providing for safer landings from massive drops and potentially opening vertical strategies.

The patch also adjusts fundamental gameplay principles with alterations to the management of stamina. A new system allows crouching stamina to recover more rapidly, enabling players to restock more quickly after emptying their energy stores. A new stamina-upgrading capability can also be bought in the REPO store to further speed recovery times, motivating more responsive and dynamic movement in situations where quick thinking is required.

Technical Fixes and Balance Adjustments

In addition to new content, the patch brings a technical patch aimed at performance glitches—namely, the stuttering associated with high-strength characters carrying items. This tweak takes care of a long-standing player grievance and should yield improved moment-to-moment play.

Semiwork has also impacted pricing within the game economy. Key consumables like health packs and energy crystals are cheaper now, a move to accommodate smaller-sized player groups who might not be able to pool resources as well as large groups. Furthermore, a patch has fixed an exploit where players would heal rapidly by waiting out a loading screen, shutting down a loophole that let players heal in ways not meant by the designers.

How to Get into Beta and What to Expect

Players who want to try out the new features can join the beta branch through Steam. To access this, right-click REPO in the Steam library, go to "Properties," click on the "Betas" tab, and choose the correct beta version from the dropdown list. As is the case with all test builds, players should expect possible bugs or glitches. Nevertheless, these problems are bound to be fixed before the features are incorporated into the stable build.

Semiwork Admits Delayed Updates

On a recent video message, the REPO development team apologized for the delayed releasing of fresh content and promised players more frequent updates in the coming future. The developers also added that player feedback during this beta test will go a long way in shaping new mechanics and readying them for a full release.

REPO has grown a loyal fan base since its launch, often being compared to games like Lethal Company for its cooperative exploration and risk-reward elements. Though the two have drastically different similarities, REPO's unique mechanics and tone are what have allowed it to stand out in the over-saturated survival genre.
