Twitch streamer xQc openly criticized Solo Leveling’s controversial win as Anime of the Year at the 2025 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Calling the series “boring” with “lazy” art, xQc’s opinions have stirred a heated debate among anime fans online
In a now-viral stream clip, Twitch star Félix ‘xQc’ Lengyel didn’t hold back on the Crunchyroll Anime Awards results — especially when it came to Solo Leveling’s big win. “It’s just so boring. I don’t get it,” he said, deadpan, before going on a rant that anime Twitter has not stopped quoting since:
“The art is sh*t and lazy”
Yep. That’s what he said. While Solo Leveling cleaned up with four awards including Best New Anime Series and Best Main Character — xQc seemed confused about how it even made it into the top tier. He bashed the show's art, calling it “lazy,” and even compared some of its designs to Hunter x Hunter’s Chimera Ants: “Somehow it’s even worse,” he added.
Overpowered MC? xQc’s not impressed
The streamer also took shots at Sung Jinwoo himself. According to xQc, the main character “just breaks the rules of the game” and turns every challenge into a get-out-of-jail-free card. “Oh my bad, I’m out of mana? Now I have infinite mana! Not enough intel? Let me max out intelligence.”
And yeah, that rant continued. “Guys, I’m about to die, oh wait the, game won’t let me die. F**k off.”

Fans of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Dandadan have also been airing similar frustrations online, claiming those series were snubbed. xQc’s comments added fuel to the fire, with many anime fans either nodding in agreement or calling him out for being “chronically online.”
Other fans had the opposite opinion, stating that Sung Jinwoo was not OP since the start and the artstyle was far from bad:
Regardless of where you stand, one thing’s clear: Solo Leveling’s win isn’t going unchallenged — and xQc isn’t the only one with this opinion. So, where do you stand?
