Sony Adds Apple Pay to PS5: A Seamless Checkout Experience for Gamers

Sony has added Apple Pay to PS5, enabling faster, secure, and convenient in-console purchases.
Sony has integrated Apple Pay into the PlayStation 5 so that are a little bit faster and more securely to complete purchases straight from the console. Theoretically, Apple Pay was at one time being leveraged for purchases on the PlayStation App and through the web browser. Today, it makes its first native push on the PS5.
What's New: Apple Pay on Console
With this update, Apple Pay joins the likes of payment options such as credit/debit card, PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo to add further options for digital payments. From there, Apple Pay can be used by gamers to buy games, DLC, subscriptions, and in-game items from the PlayStation Store without the use of card numbers in the console.
When it comes time to making payments, users need only scan a QR code shown on the Checkout screen of PS5 with an iPhone/iPad running on ios 18/iPadOS 18 or later. The transaction is securely processed through Apple Wallet, hence giving with another Apple platform that same seamless experience. Back in 2024, Statista reported that there are over 700 million users worldwide of Apple Pay, so this feature would be an excellent upgrade in convenience for a significant chunk of the PlayStation community. However, the availability might vary from region to region, so users must look for the supported countries on Sony's official support page.
How to use Apple Pay on PS5

Open the PlayStation Store on your PS5.

Add items to your cart (games, DLC, or subscriptions).

At checkout, click on the three dots next to "Confirm Purchase" and select Change Payment Method.

Choose Apple Pay and continue.

Use your iPhone or iPad to scan the QR code on screen and authorise the transaction.
Before confirming the purchase, always make sure Apple Pay is showing as the selected payment method.

Open the Wallet app on iPhone or iPad and tap the Add button.

Choose the card and tap Continue.\Follow the on-screen prompt to either scan the card or enter the numbers manually.

Verification completes with your bank or card issuer.

Since Apple Pay debuted on PS5, it's been an amazing addition because it makes digital purchases a bit quicker and secure. As gaming goes more into cashless convenience, the integration feels just right on user expectations, giving them a seamless, contactless payment solution for the contemporary gamer.
