Telegram Partners with Elon Musk’s xAI in $300 Million Grok AI Deal

Elon Musk’s xAI partners with Telegram in a $300 million deal to bring the Grok AI chatbot to over 1 billion users. The agreement marks Grok's first expansion beyond X, offering revenue-sharing and strategic growth for both companies.

Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company, xAI, has struck a major deal with Telegram to integrate its Grok chatbot into the popular messaging platform. As part of the agreement, xAI will pay Telegram a total of $300 million, a combination of cash and equity. The announcement was made by Telegram’s founder and CEO, Pavel Durov, via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

A Strategic Expansion for Grok with Telegram Partnership

Grok, the AI chatbot developed by xAI, is already available on Musk’s social media platform X. This partnership with Telegram marks Grok’s first major expansion beyond that ecosystem. Once integrated, Telegram’s massive global user base, currently estimated at over one billion monthly active users, will gain direct access to the chatbot and its capabilities.

The $300 million deal isn't just a one-off payment. Telegram will also receive 50 percent of the revenue from any xAI subscription plans that are sold directly through its platform. This type of revenue-sharing model suggests that both companies are betting on long-term success, especially as AI-powered tools continue to gain popularity among consumers and businesses alike.

Telegram, already known for its fast-growing and privacy-focused messaging platform, is positioning itself as a major tech player by embracing artificial intelligence. The integration of Grok could help the app compete with other platforms that are also adopting AI technologies, such as Meta’s AI assistants on WhatsApp and Messenger.

Why This Deal Matters

This partnership is significant for several reasons. First, it highlights the growing importance of AI integration in mainstream apps and platforms. By teaming up with Telegram, xAI can now reach a broader, global audience and test Grok’s capabilities in real-world conversations on a massive scale.

For Telegram, this collaboration enhances the app's features without the need to build its own AI from scratch. It also provides a potential new revenue stream through subscription earnings win-win for both companies.
