Ubisoft banned Twitch Partner OliviaMonroe during her sponsored Assassin’s Creed Shadows stream. Learn what happened, community reactions, and how Ubisoft's error may damage creator trust.
Ubisoft might have just dug their own grave with this one. Imagine landing a sweet sponsorship deal and looking forward to finally playing the alluded Assassin’s Creed Shadow game - only to get banned for doing exactly what you signed to do. Sounds insane right? Well, that’s exactly what happened to Twitch Partner OliviaMonroe. Let's get into it.
What Happened With OliviaMonroe And Ubisoft?
OliviaMonroe was approached by Ubisoft to do a sponsored Assassin’s Creed Shadows stream. Everything seemed to be going well- contracts were signed, agreements were made and the live started exactly as promised, before she was suddenly banned on Twitch. The reason? A copyright complaint from Ubisoft themselves.
It was found out that someone at Ubisoft misread the streaming time and thought she played the game earlier than she was supposed to. Yes, that’s it. No double checking contracts or re-confirming with colleagues. Instead, they filed a copyright complaint which resulted in an instant ban for OliviaMonroe. The worst part? Even after realising their mistake, Ubisoft allegedly blamed her instead.
Community Reactions
The gaming community has been very vocal in terms of speaking out against Ubisoft’s mishandling of events. The fans have had a lot to say with one person joking, ”Game so terrible they nuke accounts trying to salvage it.” Another promised, “ When Ubi goes bankrupt, I’m popping champagne. I’ll pour you a glass too”
In fact, fans aren't the only ones partaking in this behaviour, fellow content creators are as well!
All in all, Ubisoft is no stranger to controversy, with their rushed releases and cash-grab monetization taking a hit on their reputation as well. However, banning a sponsored creator over their own mistake? That’s a whole new low and a whole new area even in sponsored streams gone wrong.
Although OliviaMonroe’s Twitch has been reinstated, Ubisoft may now risk losing creators' trust in them. If they don’t fix this mess, content creators might start avoiding them like the plague and that’s a risk they can’t afford, especially right now.
