Ubisoft gave a Promising udpate on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Ubisoft confirms Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is still in development, with a possible release by March 2026. Here's our take on the long wait and fan hopes.

When Ubisoft first announced the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time back in September 2020, it felt like a dream come true for fans of classic action-adventure games. The original title, released in 2003, is still remembered fondly for its gripping storyline, clever time-rewind mechanics, and charming prince. So naturally, when news of a remake surfaced, excitement was through the roof.

However, things didn’t go as planned.

The game was originally supposed to be released in 2021, but several setbacks, including the COVID-19 pandemic, pushed the project into a long, uncertain delay. For months, and even years, updates were rare and vague. The excitement faded, and many wondered if the remake had been quietly shelved. The silence from Ubisoft didn’t help much either.

But now, in mid-2025, there's finally some movement, it’s giving fans hope again.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Development is in Full Swing

In a recent update shared through a short but meaningful social post, Ubisoft confirmed that development is still active. Their message was short but heartfelt: “Yep, we’re still deep in the game — exploring, building, and ensuring the sands move with purpose.”

While they didn’t reveal any trailers, screenshots, or major details, it was at least a comforting sign that the remake hasn’t been forgotten.

More importantly, Ubisoft assured that the team behind the project is dedicated and passionate, calling attention to the amount of care and energy (and yes, coffee) being poured into the game. For longtime fans, that’s something worth appreciating. Sometimes, it's better to wait longer for a game that’s done right, rather than rush a project that ends up disappointing.

Just a couple of months back, Ubisoft shared during its recent earnings report that the remake is scheduled to be released by the end of the current fiscal year, which means we could finally get our hands on it by March 31, 2026, at the latest. After almost five years since the remake's original announcement, this gives a clearer target, perhaps a bit of renewed hope.

What's interesting is that Ubisoft has remained mostly quiet about its game lineup in recent months. This year, the company had a low-key presence at gaming events,  skipping its usual Ubisoft Forward presentation. They didn’t show much at Summer Game Fest either. Compared to previous years when Ubisoft would showcase multiple upcoming titles with confidence, this quieter approach is quite different, possibly a sign that the company is focused on rebuilding its brand and trust with players.

The Sands of Time Remake, in many ways, could be symbolic of that effort. If done right, it can serve as a reminder of Ubisoft’s storytelling roots and creative strengths. With modern technology, better graphics, and refined gameplay, it has the potential to both honor the original and bring something fresh to a new generation of gamers.

Of course, words are just words until we see real gameplay. But for now, Ubisoft’s message gives fans something they haven’t had in a while: reassurance. And maybe that’s enough for now.
