Valorant responds to community concerns with its Unreal Engine 5 update releasing July 29, 2025. Learn about performance improvements, optimization, and what to expect.
Valorant finally responded to the community and one thing’s for sure, promises were made. UE5 has been controversial and the community for the most part did not take it well. Why? Because most games on UE5 were met with lags, stutters, FPS drops and more, making it incredibly frustrating to play on.
Valorant has an expansive community, aged between 18 and 34. Many of them aren’t hardcore gamers and rely on lower to mid tier set-ups to play the game and while that has never been a problem, the introduction of UE5 could threaten that. With Valorant coming forward against the idea, it raises the question: Can Valorant deliver on their promises? Let’s get into it
Will Valorant Be Unplayable After UE5?
According to Marcus Reid, Valorant’s tech lead, it’s quite the opposite. Valorant will only get better and any changes are minimal, making the game look and feel the same. They backed it up with a comparison video, showing UE5 having slightly faster fps. Riot’s message was clear — they’re not playing around and they know what they’re doing. The optimization looks solid from the sneak peek given, Riot’s proving there’s no reason to panic in the community. But, if everything’s the same, why did Valorant decide to even make this shift from UE4 to UE5?
Why Valorant Made The Shift From UE4 To UE5
According to Valorant tech lead, they’re trying to make Valorant have the best possible foundation to continue on for the next decade, instead of cooling down at their 5th anniversary. UE5 will enable the dev team to use more upgraded tools and UE5 is coming to Valorant on July 29, 2025 with a substantially big update, but after it’s been updated, its size will be half of what it was before on disk. Overall, while this change seems more for the developers, we can only wait and see if it's a good or bad one for players instead.
