Fnatic's IGL, better known as Boaster has been a dancer sweetheart of the VCT community, and here's everything you need to know about him!
If the Valorant scene had a main character, it wouldn’t be some silent aim god or an edgy Duelist one tricking their way through ranked. It would be Boaster. He’s not just the captain of Fnatic. He’s the face of energy, chaos, and serotonin every time he shows up on your screen. Whether you’re deep into the pro scene or just someone who stumbled into a tournament stream one afternoon, chances are you’ve seen this man doing a full blown kpop dance routine before a match and thought to yourself, “Wait… is this even esports?”
Who exactly is Boaster?
Jake Howlett aka Boaster, is a British Valorant professional and the IGL of Fnatic’s roster. He was born on May 25, 1995, and before becoming the meme machine of Valorant, but you'd be surprised to know that he actually had quite the resume. And I'm talking about League of Legends pro, semi pro CSGO player, and even a trained theatre performer.
Yes, theatre! You can see that suddenly the dramatic expressions and skits all make sense. He brings all of that into his gameplay and personality today. Whether it’s his calls mid round or the way he hypes his team up after a clutch, Boaster has always been about more than just pressing buttons and hitting heads.
Why Boaster Is Loved by Everyone
There are a lot of skilled players in Valorant. But very few have the kind of magnetic personality that makes viewers stay for the post match interviews just to see what he’ll say or do next. Boaster is loved because he’s the full package.
He’s Entertaining
From choreographed pre match dances to getting kpop routines down to the last move, Boaster always finds a way to make a match feel like a party. He turns every stage appearance into a moment.
He’s a Great Leader
Boaster might be joking 90 percent of the time, but when it’s game time, he switches into tactical genius mode. His calls are sharp and his strategies often unpredictable. He’s the brain behind some of Fnatic’s most mind-bending plays.
He Shows Emotion
Whether he’s crying after a big win or speaking candidly about a hard loss, Boaster doesn’t hide how much he cares. Fans connect with that honesty. It makes every victory sweeter and every defeat more meaningful.
He Keeps the Team Together
Every team needs someone who lightens the mood, cracks a joke when things get tense, and reminds everyone to enjoy the ride. Boaster is that guy. He’s the glue that holds Fnatic’s vibe together.
He’s the Human Highlight Reel
From insane clutches to perfectly timed facial expressions that become memes overnight, Boaster delivers viral content naturally, almost like he doesn’t even have to try.
Unlike most pro players who climbed the FPS ladder from a young age, Boaster came with a twist. He studied musical theatre and acting, which basically makes him the Valorant equivalent of a bard. He’s expressive, comedic, and knows exactly how to work a crowd. This also explains why he’s never awkward in interviews and why his content always feels more polished and fun than the usual answers people are used to.
More Than Just a Meme
It’s easy to focus on the jokes and forget the serious competitor underneath. Boaster has opened up many times about the pressure of leading a team at the top level. He’s spoken about burnout, performance anxiety, and the challenges that come with being the face of a team. That honesty is part of what makes his community so loyal. People don’t just laugh with him, but they root for him.
Even when Fnatic loses, Boaster finds a way to turn it into something worth remembering. A little speech. A moment with fans. A meme that softens the sting. He gets it. He gets people.
