Riot Games is cracking down on smurfing in VALORANT with multi-factor authentication and a new account standing system. Upcoming updates also include a replay system and Unreal Engine 5 upgrade.
Big news is coming to VALORANT, and it's something the community has been hoping for since the game's early days. Riot Games has officially announced that it’s making serious changes to improve the overall experience in the game, especially for those frustrated with smurfers.
Riot Is Cracking Down on Smurfing with Multi-Factor Authentication
For a long time, players have complained about smurfing when highly skilled players create new accounts to face off against less experienced opponents. This not only ruins the fun for newcomers but also messes with matchmaking. Riot is now taking this issue seriously. One big move is the addition of multi-factor authentication (MFA). This means players will have to verify their identity before logging in, making it much harder to share or misuse accounts. With MFA, Riot can better track who’s actually playing, and smurfing could finally be a thing of the past.

But that’s not all. Riot is also rolling out a new account standing system. This feature will show you how your account is doing in terms of behavior. You’ll see if you’ve broken any rules, received warnings, or if you’re at risk of getting banned. It’s designed to keep players informed and encourage better behavior in matches.
Replay System Coming in Patch 11.6 and Unreal Engine 5 in Patch 11.02
Another long-awaited addition is the replay system. Arriving with patch 11.6, this feature will first be available in competitive matches. Players can finally review their games, spot mistakes, and improve their gameplay. Over time, Riot plans to bring replays to unranked and custom games as well.
And there’s more on the technical side too; that is, patch 11.02, expected at the end of July, will upgrade VALORANT to Unreal Engine 5. This could mean smoother gameplay, better graphics, and a more stable experience overall.
