Varlet’s new trailer unveils menacing villains, emotional bonds, and a deep combat system in a vibrant pixel world. Coming to PC and consoles in 2025.
Subliminal's upcoming pixel-based RPG, Varlet, received another trailer recently. It is being called the second official one, and it gives some more details about the villains that players can expect and the game system that it includes. While the visuals stayed colorful, the tone seemed darker this time due to how the villains were shown.
With the new trailer, villains have taken more of the center spotlight. Each of them has its own strange style and purpose; some of them are creepy-looking, and some are more of the mechanical kind. All of them are shown to be in different regions of the map, which seems to be affecting their fight techniques too. Many of them speak with strong words, implying maybe they aren't just evil for no reason. It can be suggested that the story will focus on decisions that may not always be very clear about what is good or bad.
Systems of Battle and Emotional Bonds
As was demonstrated in the trailer, the game includes a fighting system that uses turns. You will control three people in the group, and they do different things. Where you put them and when you act with them becomes important. It even has elements like ice or fire and special status effects. One interesting feature is the link attack, which needs a stronger relation between characters to get activated.
Friendship between the group members isn’t just for show. It will affect the way battles go and also what dialogue you will see. As the group continues to talk or act together, their closeness will increase. It can also affect the ending or how the story moves by making different paths open.
Design of the World and Exploration Ideas
The art that Varlet is using stays pixel-like but with more details than old games. The trailer keeps showing forests that glow and broken ancient places with atmosphere. Characters are moving smoothly, and each screen looks made with care. It’s making the player feel like it’s both new and old at the same time.
There are short moments seen of solving puzzles and doing small quests. It indicates that not all time is spent fighting. There will be different ways to discover the world’s story and mechanics.
