Will Resident Evil 9 Be First-Person or Third-Person?

  • June 13, 2025 (UPDATED: June 13, 2025 00:28 IST)

Resident Evil 9: Requiem lets players switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. Here’s everything we know so far about the game’s camera options.

So, after what feels like ages, Capcom has finally shared what we’ve all been waiting to hear: Resident Evil Requiem is coming. It’s the next big entry in the series, and if everything goes as planned, we should be seeing it in February 2026. Of course, delays are always possible, but that’s the current plan. Ever since the news dropped, fans (including me) have been wondering one big thing: will it be first-person or third-person?

To get why that question matters, it helps to look back a bit. Resident Evil has always played around with its style. The early games had those old-school fixed camera angles. Then RE4 came along and changed everything with that over-the-shoulder, third-person view. People loved it, and it stuck for a long time.

But then Resident Evil 7 came in and flipped things with a first-person view. It was a bold move, but it worked, making the whole experience feel way more intense and personal.

That same style continued with Resident Evil Village (RE8). Then we got the RE4 Remake in 2023, which brought back the third-person camera. That remake even let players choose how they wanted to play in certain parts, and fans really appreciated that freedom.

First-Person, Third-Person, or Both?

Now, with Resident Evil 9: Requiem, it seems Capcom is planning to offer both perspectives. Reports suggest that players will have the freedom to switch between first-person and third-person modes right from the settings menu, even during the campaign. This level of choice is pretty rare in AAA games and shows that Capcom is genuinely listening to its audience.

As someone who has dived into nearly every Resident Evil game, I think this is a brilliant move. I’ve always respected how Capcom isn’t afraid to evolve and try new things. That’s why what they’re reportedly doing with Resident Evil Requiem makes total sense. It’s probably the best decision they could make. Capcom clearly aims to cater to all types of players, whether you lean towards classic horror or modern gameplay. Giving us the option to choose how we experience the terror? That’s a win for everyone!
