Witcher 4 Gameplay Revealed at Unreal Fest: 60FPS with Ray Tracing on PS5

Witcher 4’s first gameplay demo revealed at Unreal Fest shows stunning 60FPS ray-traced visuals on PS5. Ciri and the world steal the spotlight.

CD Projekt Red has just dropped the first real look at Witcher 4 during Unreal Fest, and honestly, it’s already turning heads. The most surprising part? The game was shown running on a regular PS5, not a dev kit or PC, at 60 frames-per-second with ray tracing turned on. That’s not something we see every day, especially for a huge open-world RPG. While this demo isn’t the final version, what we saw gives a strong glimpse of just how far the series is pushing forward.

Ciri Returns, and Looks Beautiful as Ever

From what was shown, it’s clear that Witcher 4 gonna be a very immersive open-world RPG. The cities look lively, characters are full of emotions, and there’s a lot of dialogue. Ciri was clearly the highlight here. She looked stunning in her new design, and she’s riding a horse named Kelpie. They also showed some animation tests around the horse, which was kind of interesting. But sadly, there’s no sign of Geralt yet. Some fans might feel a bit let down by that.

Unreal Engine Shines Through Stunning Visuals

CD Projekt Red confirmed that the visuals are powered by Unreal Engine with Nanite Foliage and a new animation system. The world seems highly interactive. Every NPC seems to respond well, and the towns feel alive. It’s all designed to make the game world much more believable.

However, even though the demo was running at 60 FPS with ray tracing, they said that this performance is not guaranteed in the final game. So, players should be aware of that before building expectations too high.

No Combat Was Shown Yet

One of the disappointing things was that there wasn’t any combat scene shown in this gameplay. The demo was mostly cutscenes and people walking around towns. So it still leaves us wondering what the fighting mechanics will look or feel like. Still, CDPR is calling this the most ambitious Witcher game so far. Based on what we saw, that might be true.

Even though it’s just an early demo, Witcher 4 already looks very promising. If the final game looks and plays anything like this, especially on base PS5, it could be one of the best open-world RPGs ever made. Let’s hope we see combat footage soon, and maybe a surprise return of Geralt too.
