Wu-Tang Clan Unveils New Co-Op Action RPG ‘Rise of the Deceiver’ at Summer Game Fest

Wu-Tang Clan will return to the gaming universe for the first time in ages with Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver, a cooperative action RPG announced officially at Summer Game Fest 2025. The New York-based Brass Lion Entertainment is handling the development, and the game combines stylized combat with a classic Wu-Tang soundtrack to bring some cultural spice to fantasy-action gaming.

A Long-Rumored Project Becomes Reality

The game was initially teased back in 2021 under the codename "Project Shaolin." Industry insider reports at the time characterized it as a melee co-op game, but very little official information came out—until now. Brass Lion Entertainment's official announcement came in the form of a trailer that blended cinematic shots and short glimpses of gameplay. The video showed the game's anime-style art direction and cooperative play design, with support for three players online and solo play as well.

Based in the legendary world of Shaolin, the story has the players fighting against an evil, corrupting force called the Deceiver. As an action RPG, the game will include melee-focused combat, character customization, and mission-based progression in a stylized fantasy environment.

Rise of the Deceiver was originally planned as a sister title to Angel of Dust, an upcoming supernatural horror movie directed by RZA and produced by fellow Wu-Tang affiliate Ghostface Killah. The project eventually evolved into a separate game in its own right, however. Brass Lion hopes to combine elements of Afro-surrealism, anime visual styles, and traditional action-RPG gameplay.

The soundtrack will be an integral component of the experience, combining classic Wu-Tang cuts with original material. Grammy-nominated producer Just Blaze is spearheading the music for the game, making sure that the aural world responds both to the group's heritage and the fantasy world of the game.

First Wu-Tang Video Game in Over Two Decades

Rise of the Deceiver is the hip-hop crew's first significant video game release since 1999's Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, a cult-favorite fighting game released for the original PlayStation. Entitled Wu-Tang: Taste the Pain in Europe, the game was an ambitious mashup of martial arts and music, so Rise of the Deceiver is technically a spiritual successor both in tone and scope.

In contrast with its forerunner, which was only on one platform, the new title will be available across several systems. Although individual platforms are yet to be specifically confirmed, PC support has been announced, while releases on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are strongly to be expected. The title is presently on Steam with Family Sharing support, and it is possible for users to put it on their wishlist. Information about its release window and price is still not made public.

A New Era for Brass Lion and Wu-Tang

Brass Lion Entertainment, which has developed a reputation for genre-transcending titles and diverse storytelling, is guiding the creation of Rise of the Deceiver. This alliance with Wu-Tang is an unusual convergence of hip-hop culture, fantasy narrative, and interactive media. With both established fans and new players in its sights, the game is establishing itself as a daring addition to the expanding category of music-driven video games.
