Wuchang: Fallen Feathers peaks at 114,132 Steam players on launch day. Discover how Leenzee’s soulslike RPG impressed fans and critics alike.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a dark action RPG game made in China by a studio Leenzee Games and published by 505 Games and has succeeded in quite a successful release on Steam. Shortly after its release on July 24, 2025, it broke the record of the number of concurrent players (114,132) and, temporarily, the fifth position in the list of Most Played games in Steam. This in actuality is an excellent result considering the amount of fans who had already been expecting the game prior to its occurrence.
Game Progress
The game was initially announced in September 2021, and over the course of the following years, it remained somewhat in the public eye.But it wasn't until the June 2024 Xbox Games Showcase that interest really began gathering steam. At that event, it was confirmed for day-one release on Xbox Game Pass, which helped push it further to more general audiences. The game was released on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S simultaneously.
It's on Unreal Engine 5, and the world takes some inspiration from Chinese history, notably the Shu province in late Ming dynasty, which is actually kind of cool for fans of that setting. Reception Until Now Critics so far have been saying good things.
The game is hovering at a 75 average score on Metacritic, and OpenCritic displays a similar average as well. A big part of the credit goes to fast-paced combat which emphasizes lots of dodging, and also the mechanics of the "Madness Gauge". This new system sort of flips the script on how dying and becoming stronger plays out, and folks are saying it adds more depth to the typical soulslike formula.
Performance and Tech
SteamDB confirmed the 114k peak and the fact that the game does not demand the use of the most extreme hardware is likely to help. It is powered by GTX 1060 or RX 580, 16GB of RAM and mid-tier CPUs. That simplified the entry of more players. No denizens of the console side yet, but early prevalues on Xbox Series X have the game performing admirably and looking clean.
Having launched fairly well on Steam, received mediocre reviews, and touted on Game Pass, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is turning out to be one of the more memorable soulslike releases in recent times, at least within the scope of what I have experienced. We will have to wait to see how it will last in the long run but as of now what it starts is promising.
