Wuchang: Fallen Feathers – Release Window, Gameplay, & Soulslike Combat Details

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a soulslike action RPG set in the late Ming Dynasty, featuring brutal combat, historical horror, and a dark fantasy world. Coming in 2025 to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S—day one on Xbox Game Pass!

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is an upcoming soulslike action RPG from Leenzee Games, a Chinese studio, and published by 505 Games. Set in the late Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), the game plunges players into a haunted, war-torn world where a mysterious plague twists humans into grotesque monsters. Players take control of Wuchang, a fierce warrior with a red ponytail and dual blades, battling both human foes and supernatural horrors in a world inspired by Chinese history and mythology.

Fast, Precision-Based Combat

Drawing heavy inspiration from Dark Souls and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the game features:

  • Fast, methodical melee combat requiring skill and precision
  • Dual-wielding and traditional Chinese weaponry
  • Towering bosses like a multi-limbed abomination and heavily armored warriors

The recent IGN Fan Fest trailer showcased Wuchang’s agility, brutal combos, and intense boss battles, setting the stage for a challenging yet rewarding experience.

A Haunting Take on Ming Dynasty China

The game’s world is a dark, reimagined version of China during the Ming Dynasty’s decline—an era of political turmoil, rebellion, and suffering. The plague at the heart of the story brings a fantasy-horror twist, mutating the infected into nightmarish creatures, adding a layer of body horror to the soulslike formula.

Expect to explore:

  • Crumbling temples and misty forests
  • Blood-soaked battlefields
  • A painterly aesthetic inspired by traditional Chinese art

The moody, desaturated color palette and historical themes set it apart from other games in the genre, offering a fresh perspective that blends myth, history, and horror.

Release Window & Game Pass Availability

First revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview (October 2024) and later showcased at Gamescom 2024, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is set to release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be a day-one Xbox Game Pass title, making it more accessible to a wider audience.

However, with no specific release date yet, fans are speculating about potential delays, especially with big competitors like Black Myth: Wukong DLC and Elden Ring successors set to drop in 2025.

A Soulslike with Chinese Cultural Depth

Leenzee Games has teased a deep progression system, allowing players to customize Wuchang’s abilities and weapons. While details remain scarce, early impressions suggest:

  • A steep difficulty curve
  • Emphasis on stamina management and precise dodging
  • A combat system that rewards patience and skill

Fans on social media have praised the game’s unique cultural focus, seeing it as a fresh take on the soulslike genre, which has traditionally been dominated by Western or Japanese influences.

As development progresses, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is shaping up to be a visually stunning and brutally challenging entry in the soulslike pantheon.
