Lupin the IIIrd: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku Drops Music Trailer Featuring B’z Theme Song

Lupin the IIIrd returns in 2D with a new trailer featuring B’z’s theme song “The IIIRD Eye.”

A teaser for a new music video had been revealed, and already anime fans were quite abuzz with it, as Lupin the IIIrd: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku now has a look at its final theme "The IIIRD Eye," which is performed by legendary Japanese rock group B'z. While the full version of the song is not present except during the credits in the movie, the trailer provides the audience with a momentary feel of it through the dramatic shots of the movie.

It does have shots that show the main characters—Lupin, Jigen, Fujiko, Goemon, and Zenigata—through a series of pivotal moments. These shots serve not only to present the tone of this new story but also to give a nod towards the visual style of other Lupin the IIIrd films by director Takeshi Koike. His style of choice—aggressiveness of pace, dark coloring, much action—it's all still there in this trailer as well.

First Time 2D Coming Back After a Long Time

Lupin III: A Mentira de Fujiko Mine (2019) - IMDb

This new Lupin movie, Fujimi no Ketsuzoku, gained extra importance since it's the first time in about 30 years that the series is coming back to 2D animation for cinema. The film was directed by Takeshi Koike, who earlier also directed Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko's Lie and cult favorite Redline. This effort is being undertaken by Studio Telecom Animation Film, so the animation and quality must be good.

Screenwriting is being performed by Yuya Takahashi, who also performs screenwriting for Lupin the 3rd Part IV. Background music has been composed by James Shimoji, who had worked with Koike earlier on Redline. Furthermore, Redline mastermind Katsuhito Ishii is also on board as creative adviser. The distribution side of the film is also being managed by TOHO NEXT.

Already Opened in Theaters

The movie Lupin the IIIrd: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku has already started getting screened in Japanese cinemas from June 27. While the whole album of "The IIIRD Eye" has not been heard yet except in the film, this music video trailer provides the listeners with an initial impression of how sound and image will be working together. The classic fans and new listeners seem to be getting more interested in this project as it gets more promotion.
