Favorite Games not showing up in the Steam library? Try the steps mentioned in this article

It's Frustrating when you are all geared up to play your favourite game and see that it's not showing up in your library. Steam has a history of not recognizing installed games. This is a reoccurring issue reported on both Windows 11 and 10 computers. However, with slight effort, you can fix the problem. How?

1. Make Sure Your Game is Installed

Though it might sound obvious, it can actually happen if you have a habit of installing and uninstalling the games to free up the storage. To check on your installed games, go to your Steam library and look for the “Installed” tag at the top of the page. If the game is not visible, you have to install it again.

2. Try Restarting the Program

Sometimes even after installing the game, it doesn't show up in the library. Try restarting the program. Steam can experience small glitches that prevent it from appearing in your library. Closing and reopening the program can help to refresh the system and solve the issue.

3. Clear Download Cache

You can try clearing Steam’s download cache, which can sometimes get corrupted and cause problems with game recognition. To do this, go to the “Downloads” tab in Steam’s settings and click Clear Download Cache.

4. Verify the Integrity of Game Files

Another possible reason why Steam does not recognize your game is an error in Steam's file system. This may happen if you have moved your game files to another folder or if the file got corrupted due to a virus or system error. To solve this you need to run Steam’s file integrity checker to verify the game’s cache and ensure that all necessary files are present. To run Steam’s file integrity checker follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Right-click on the game in your Steam library.
  • Click “Properties,” and go to the “Local Files” tab.
  • Click “Verify Integrity of Game Files” and wait for Steam to complete the process.
  • Clear AppCache

The last solution to sort out the Steam game recognition issue is to delete the AppCache folder in the Steam directory. Sometimes, these files can become corrupted or outdated, causing problems with game recognition. To delete the folder navigate to your Steam directory (located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam). Then find the “app cache” folder and delete it. When you restart Steam, it will automatically generate a new app cache folder and update its game listings.
