A guide to unlock your favourite heros in Overwatch 2
While all characters don’t come on a silver platter from the get-go, the good news is that a majority of these heroes only require a dash of commitment and some amount of gameplay.

To help you in your quest, we've made a list of all the heroes available in Overwatch 2, along with the things you’ll need to unlock them. This way, you can swiftly return to the battlefield and engage in enemy annihilation with your preferred character.
Regardless of whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned veteran of the original game, your initial roster in Overwatch 2 will consist of the following heroes:
Lucio, Mercy, Moira, Orisa, Pharah, Reinhardt, Reaper, Soldier: 76, Torbjorn, Tracer, Widowmaker, Winston, and Zarya.
These heroes will serve as your starting point, by the way. To unlock the remaining heroes in Overwatch 2, you'll need to play a significant number of matches, although some newer heroes, such as Junker Queen, may involve a slightly different unlocking process.
For most of the heroes, the unlocking process is tied to playing matches and completing specific challenges associated with each hero. While some challenges may be relatively quick to complete, others might require a more time, as seen with heroes like Baptiste. After you've successfully finished four matches, each subsequent victory will count as two, which makes the process much easier, making your journey towards unlocking heroes a bit smoother.
Now let’s get to how many matches would be needed to unlock every character.
• Genji (DMG) – 1 match
• D.Va (Tank) – 2 matches
• Cassidy (DMG) – 3 matches
• Ana (Support) – 4 matches
• Hanzo (DMG) – 9 matches
• Junkrat (DMG) – 12 matches
• Roadhog (Tank) – 15 matches
• Symmetra (DMG) – 20 matches
• Zenyatta (Support) – 25 matches
• Bastion (DMG) – 30 matches
• Sigma (Tank) – 40 matches
• Ashe (DMG) – 50 matches
• Brigitte (Support) – 60 matches
• Mei (DMG) – 70 matches
• Doomfist (Tank) – 85 matches
• Baptiste (Support) – 100 matches
• Sombra (DMG) – 115 matches
• Wrecking Ball (Tank) – 130 matches
• Echo (DMG) – 150 matches
• Kiriko, Junker queen, Sojourn, Lifeweaver and Illari – Complete challenges
A portion of the hero challenges in Overwatch 2 share a similar structure, often leading to players utilizing all of the hero's abilities within the practice range.
Moreover, for those who prefer not to undertake the challenges, Blizzard offers an alternative solution. Players have the option to get hero starter packs, which unlock the Overwatch 2 heroes without requiring the completion of individual challenges.
