Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year edition announced; Cyberpunk 2077 sequel pre-production starts later in 2023
The team at Boston, which will head the development of the Cyberpunk sequel, will not be starting the project before the release of Phantom Liberty in 2023.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been confirmed for a Game of the Year edition. The Cyberpunk 2077 GOTY edition will be coming out in 2023 and it’ll come packed with the upcoming Phantom Liberty DLC. CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński said about this decision that “It's a natural order of things”.
Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year edition
CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński further added that it’s the same move as with The Witcher 3, as reported by Polish news site Stockwatch. Speaking during a recent call with investors, CD Projekt CEO said, “It was the same with The Witcher 3, which after both expansions was finally released as a Game of the Year Edition and has been operating on the market ever since. The same can be expected in this case. It's quite obvious.”
“Game of the Year” edition used to actually carry weightage when it was associated with titles like The Witcher 3, Sekiro, and God of War. The title has now been used as a glorified title for deluxe editions of a game. The game does not necessarily have to be awarded the title by any publication or awards show, it can be quite self-proclaimed nowadays when releasing the GOTY edition.
Nonetheless, Cyberpunk 2077 has bounced back graciously from the horrific start to its life. The game finally started to showcase its potential after the 1.6 update. The amazing success of the Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners also contributed to the recent success of Cyberpunk 2077. So much so that the game topped charts recently on Steam, ahead of titles like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and FIFA 23 for a brief period.
Suffice it to say, the company benefited greatly from the launch of Edgerunners, and the company announced the best Q3 they have ever experienced.
Cyberpunk 2077 sequel development process will start in 2023
Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting the Phantom Liberty expansion next year and it will be the first and last DLC for the game. While that is certainly disappointing news, CD Projekt has already announced a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
They’ve now revealed that pre-production for Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will not be starting before 2023. The CEO stated that the team at CD Projekt Red is currently in the final stages of development for Phantom Liberty DLC with 350 people working on it. The team at Boston, which will head the development of the Cyberpunk sequel, will not be starting the project before the release of Phantom Liberty in 2023.
