Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Deploys New June Update to Fix Grief Mode and More

Black Ops 6 June update fixes Grief mode, UI bugs, and Gunsmith issues.

Following the outbreak of player frustrations over Season 4's release, Treyarch has put out a fresh patch for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 this June. The update, which dropped just a week after the content-heavy Season 4 release, focuses largely on gameplay interruptions and technological inconsistencies that have plagued the experience in multiplayer, Zombies, and the Gunsmith customization toolset.

Even with Black Ops 6's dominant standing in first-person shooter territory, the recent return of the much-loved Grief mode has brought both enthusiasm and backlash. With the mode's return as a team-oriented PvPvE experience—in which groups of four not only fight off waves of zombies but battle one another—players soon ran into frustrating bugs and balance problems. This recent update, which is dated June 6, is Treyarch's effort to restore stability and shine to the game's changing systems.

Weapons and Customization: Gunsmith Rebalancing and Fixes

One major feature of the patch focuses on issues in the Gunsmith system. The damage potential of the "Rapid Fire" Fire Mod has also been refined to match the base stats of the AK-74 assault rifle, making it consistent throughout play. Developers also made adjustments to attachment loadouts for FFAR 1 blueprints, along with the restoration of underbarrel launcher support for the "Combo Bash" version of the same firearm.

User Interface Adjustments: Visual Glitches and Exploits Fixed

The game UI has also seen much-improved changes. A few Operators—Hudson, Mace, and R0-Z3—now appear properly on the character list screen. The exploit enabling players to outfit locked-out camos on weapons has been fixed, and the Mastercraft icon for the LC10 "Storm Rage" blueprint is now displayed correctly in customization menus.

Multiplayer stability was given minor—but necessary—consideration as well. A glitch that made placeholder symbols appear instead of player levels during match queues has been fixed.

Zombies and Grief Mode: Balance Adjustments and Bug Fixes

The most revolutionary changes were reserved for Black Ops 6's Zombies mode, particularly the newly revived Grief mode. Treyarch toned down the distracting flinch effect caused by enemy melee attacks, especially to prevent the impact of repeated melee attacks. These serial attacks no longer apply stack stun and slow effects if prior debuffs persist.

Field Upgrade powers like Aether Shroud and Healing Aura now take much more kills to trigger—180 and 240, respectively—in a response that shortens the length of protracted matches. Some of the other key bug fixes include fixing a problem in which players were deprived of access to weapons under the Weapon Roulette modifier and making sure randomized weapons are handed out properly. Also fixed were the unintended occurrence of Wonder Weapons and the prevalence of too many UI icons on the map.

What's Coming Next for Black Ops 6?

Treyarch has recognized additional improvements being in the works. Developers confirmed continued development on upcoming updates, specifically focused on streamlining the mechanics of Grief mode to provide a more enjoyable and balanced play experience. The studio also unveiled a fresh new list of rotating multiplayer playlists coming later this week.

This patching cycle of rapid-fire releases illustrates Treyarch's ability to respond to feedback from the community, with the studio fine-tuning Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in real time. Although the June update provides sorely needed patches in a variety of game modes, the true measure of player satisfaction will ultimately rest on how well future patches remedy core balance and design issues that have been raised since the launch of Season 4.
