Fortnite Introduces AI-Powered Darth Vader with Voice Interaction Features
Fortnite tests AI Darth Vader with voice chat, squad joins, and safe interaction limits.

Epic Games is testing a new AI integration in Fortnite in which the player is able to interact with an AI version of Darth Vader. The project is an important step towards mixing gameplay with generative AI technology, providing players with dynamic in-game dialogue with the legendary Star Wars villain.
The feature, still in development, employs a partnership between Epic Games, Google Gemini, and ElevenLabs to support both voice and chat interactions. This experimental version of Darth Vader can interact with players in real-time, responding to direct queries and responding naturally to what happens in the game. Access to this feature is restricted by age and parental approval for younger players.
As reported by Fortnite leakers like HYPEX and ShiinaBR, the AI-managed Darth Vader is not a passive NPC. He can leave or join a player's team, summarize recent in-game events, warn players, and sometimes chime in with random remarks — all with the goal of adding more realism and immersion to the experience.
The AI behavior is, however, strictly moderated. Epic Games has also placed several limits to help maintain proper content, such as prohibiting mentions of V-Bucks, adult subjects, violent scenes concerning children, or mentions out of official Disney and Star Wars canon. The AI is also not allowed to create romantic plots with players. If a player appears to be under emotional distress, the Darth Vader AI is designed to provide encouraging responses and recommend professional assistance where applicable.

To enable this feature, gamers need to find the "Samurai Solitude" location in Fortnite, fight and defeat Darth Vader, and then recruit him. After being recruited into the team, gamers can have continuous voice-based interactions with the AI.
Footage of the new feature has already gone viral, including a trending video by content creator NickEh30 engaging with the AI companion.
In the meantime, Fortnite also struggles outside its own universe. The platform continues to be banned on iOS devices because of controversies with Apple. The unveiling of the highly awaited General Grievous skin has also been pushed back, says Epic Games.

This incorporation of AI is a risky new approach for Fortnite, one that combines storytelling, technology, and interactivity in a way that may redefine the player experience.
