FragPunk Console Release Delayed: New Launch Plans & Player Compensation

Fans eager to dive into FragPunk on PlayStation and Xbox will have to wait a little longer. Just days before launch, publisher NetEase announced that the game’s console release has been delayed due to unexpected technical issues. While this is disappointing news, PC players can still jump in as planned on March 6.
FragPunk’s Unique Take on the Hero Shooter Genre
Originally revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024, FragPunk quickly caught attention with its stylish visuals and unique gameplay mechanics. The 5v5 hero shooter aims to carve out a spot in a market dominated by games like Overwatch 2 and Marvel Rivals.
One of FragPunk’s biggest selling points is its card system, which lets players alter matches in real time. With over 70 different cards, effects can range from giving enemies giant heads to adding elemental properties to bullets—leading to unpredictable and chaotic battles.
Why the Delay?
Despite positive reception from closed beta tests, NetEase announced that the PlayStation and Xbox versions were not ready for launch. The delay stems from “unexpected technical challenges in optimization and adaptation” during the console compliance testing process. Instead of releasing a subpar version, the publisher chose to hold off until the game meets their quality standards.

Player Compensation Plans
To make up for the delay, NetEase is offering compensation for console players who pre-ordered the game:
- Automatic Pre-Order Refunds – Players who pre-ordered on PlayStation or Xbox will be refunded automatically.
- Limited-Time Bonus Content – Pre-order bonuses will still be available when the console version eventually launches.
- Season 1 Rewards – Players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will retroactively earn all in-game rewards from Season 1 when they finally get access, including cosmetics, in-game currency, and XP.
- $10 Worth of In-Game Currency – As an extra thank-you, pre-order players will receive $10 in in-game currency when the console version arrives.
What’s Next for FragPunk?
While console players have to wait, FragPunk is still in a strong position to make an impact in the hero shooter space. NetEase has already seen success with Marvel Rivals, and developer Bad Guitar Studio has been actively tweaking the game based on beta feedback.
If the team can quickly resolve console issues and keep adding fresh content, FragPunk could find a loyal audience despite the crowded market. For now, PC players can jump in on March 6, while console players will have to stay tuned for a new release date.
