GeoGuessr Enters Esports World Cup Festival 2025 with $20,000 Last Chance Tournament
GeoGuessr joins EWC 2025 with a $20K tournament ahead of its World Championship finals.

GeoGuessr, the globally recognized geography and exploration game, is making its competitive debut at the Esports World Cup Festival (EWC Festival) this summer. In collaboration with the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), GeoGuessr will be featured as part of the event's tournament lineup, marking a significant step forward for its evolving esports presence.
Set to run from July 7 to August 24 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the EWC Festival will spotlight GeoGuessr in its third week (July 21–27), during which it will host a Last Chance Wildcard Tournament. This competition will determine the final two participants for the 2025 GeoGuessr World Championship, scheduled to take place in Copenhagen on August 29–30. The qualifier will see 16 of the game's top-ranked players face off for a $20,000 prize pool and the remaining spots on the championship roster.
Having originally launched in 2013, GeoGuessr has evolved from a casual, browser-based guessing game into a dynamic esports contender. Gaining widespread popularity during the global pandemic in 2020, the game has since cultivated a dedicated player base on platforms like Steam, with content creators and competitive players helping to boost its visibility. Like chess, which also enters the EWC arena this year, GeoGuessr has successfully turned a traditionally non-competitive activity into a fast-paced and strategic spectacle.
"GeoGuessr brings a unique blend of global exploration and competitive gameplay, and we’re thrilled to welcome it to the EWC Festival,” said Fabian Scheuermann, Chief Games Officer at the Esports World Cup Foundation. “Its global appeal and creative mechanics make it a perfect fit as we continue to broaden the horizons of competitive gaming.”
The GeoGuessr World Championship was formally introduced in 2023, and since then, the title has cemented its place within the esports ecosystem. With growing interest from international audiences, the addition of GeoGuessr to the EWC lineup is expected to amplify its reach and affirm its legitimacy as a competitive title.
The EWC Festival, held alongside the main Esports World Cup competition, offers a large-scale celebration of gaming culture. In addition to esports tournaments, the event features music performances, retro arcades, cosplay exhibitions, anime cafés, and content creator activations, drawing gaming fans from around the world to Riyadh.
