Marvel Rivals Speeds Up Character Releases with Monthly Drops
Marvel Rivals will adopt a two-month season format starting Season 3, as revealed in Dev Vision Vol. 05. Creative director GuangGuang promises faster updates, more content, and a dynamic player experience.

Marvel Rivals is accelerating its content rollout. Starting with Season 3, the game will introduce one new playable character every month, giving players consistent, fresh content to enjoy. This exciting change was confirmed by Creative Director Guangguang during the latest developer diary and comes after in-depth internal discussions. This move represents a major evolution for the game’s content roadmap, designed to keep the experience fresh, dynamic, and competitive. By spacing out hero releases more evenly, players will have more time to explore, adapt to, and enjoy each new addition without waiting for massive seasonal drops.
Shorter Seasons for a Smoother Experience
To support this new release schedule, Marvel Rivals will shift to a two-month season format. This will allow each season to include two new character additions while also giving the development team room to optimise updates and in-game events. The change is designed to keep the game’s pacing dynamic and content-rich.
Why the Change & How It Works
The dev team explained that this system was developed after extensive internal discussions and community feedback. Players wanted more frequent and consistent updates to keep the game feeling fresh and competitive. With over 30 characters already in the game, this approach allows the roster to evolve regularly and give players new tactical options more often.
- One new character will be released every month, starting with Season 3.
- Seasons will now last two months, meaning each season will include two character additions.
- This change is designed to balance content volume with quality, ensuring each new hero is fully polished and impactful.
What Players Can Expect
Each character drop is expected to come with a dedicated spotlight or showcase, a character-specific event or mission to unlock cosmetics or in-game rewards, and Integration into meta updates or balance patches to keep gameplay fair and fresh. These characters may include both iconic Marvel favourites and deeper cuts from the Marvel universe, much like previous releases (e.g., Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Emma Frost).
Before Season 3 arrives, fans can look forward to Season 2, which is live in the game. This season is themed around the iconic Hellfire Gala from X-Men comics and will feature glamorous new skins for Magneto, Scarlet Witch, Cloak and Dagger, and Captain America.
