The chapter begins by rewinding to Harald's childhood, where we see him as a very strong and initially spoiled giant. The unexpected encounter he has with Ida, a giantess being exploited in a human circus, changes the trajectory of his life forever. Upon impulsively rescuing her family, based on self-righteousness, in defense of Elbaf's safety and its honor, Harald realizes too late that she was willingly working with the humans who saved her. She is understandably enraged at Harald for ruining her life, and spends considerable time hitting him. This humbling moment would be Harald's first step, many steps away from his arrogant self; the second was his inquisitiveness about other cultures.
Harald rescues Ida and brings her back to Elbaf, where he tells her he intends to marry her. However, the giant elders of Elbaf enforce their traditions, stating that he cannot marry her, despite his clear desire to do so, because she is not from "Elbaf blood" at all. Regardless, she establishes herself in an Elbaf village, and while she is there, Harald is not too much longer, a changed man, engaged in diplomatic efforts to countries all around the world, including the Ryugu Kingdom, which I will speak of in a minute.
A Royal Wedding and One Hell of an Entrance
Several years later, Ida gives birth to Hajrudin, solidifying the bloodline connection between Harald and the popular giant who is a member of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Harald's fate is set in stone by the giant elders, who arrange the wedding between him and Estrida, the daughter of a high-ranking giant. Before the wedding, Estrida is described as incredibly beautiful and obsessed with "Di Feng" (probably the One Piece version of Feng Shui). Estrida believes that she is destined to be loved by Harald and immediately hates Ida and Hajrudin, setting a very tense mood.
The real bombshell is when Estrida is born, Loki. Instead of receiving a normal baby, Estrida is horrified to find that Loki has "demon eyes" like Sauron, and nearly loses it. Estrida tries to throw the baby into the Underworld and then instructs the servants to tell Harald the baby was stillborn.
Loki's Curse and a Stillborn Prophecy
The epic ending pages of this chapter show baby Loki miraculously crawling up the "The Treasure Tree Adam," not dead but injured after fighting the Underworld monsters. This incredible feat illustrates just how formidable a being Loki is and foreshadows a power weave that can only spell doom.
The chapter ends with a narrative voiceover that fuses the disparate strands. Estrida, apparently succumbing to some illness, remains obsessed with Loki and reveals a chilling prophecy: "King Harald will be killed by his own son." A soldier dismisses the gravity of the statement as merely nonsense, though the reality is grave. King Harald is shown at sea, troubled by the "World Government" getting in the way of international relations, and Ida mentions wanting Hajrudin to meet his "little brother." Hajrudin appropriately objects to the label of "little brother."
The narrator's last statement cements the dire possibility: "From then on, every disaster that befalls Elbaf will be attributed to 'Loki's Curse.' This detail does not bode well for Elbaf's future and cements Loki to be a force of great, perhaps destructive, importance.
