Split Fiction Friend’s Pass: How to Play Co-Op for Free
Learn how to use the Friend’s Pass in Split Fiction! Invite a friend to play for free on PS5, Xbox, or Steam and explore Hazelight’s latest co-op adventure together.

Split Fiction, the latest co-op adventure from Hazelight Studios, throws players into a wild story about two writers, Mio and Zoe—one a sci-fi fanatic, the other obsessed with fantasy. While their genres (and personalities) clash, they’ll have to work together to navigate the unpredictable worlds they create.
Since Split Fiction is co-op only, you’ll need a second player to experience the game. Luckily, Hazelight has made that easier with the Friend’s Pass, allowing one player to own the game while the other joins for free. Here’s everything you need to know about using the Friend’s Pass.
How to Get the Friend’s Pass
No matter where you’re playing—Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series X/S—you’ll need to download the Split Fiction Friend’s Pass separately. Finding it might be tricky, so searching "Split Fiction - Friend’s Pass" in your platform’s store is the best way to locate it.

Subscription Requirements
- On PC (Steam), no extra subscriptions are needed.
- On PS5 and Xbox, both players must have an active PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass subscription to play online.
How to Invite Your Friend in Split Fiction
Once your friend has downloaded the Friend’s Pass, the host (the person who owns the game) can invite them using these steps:
- Open Split Fiction and select "Play Online" from the main menu.
- If playing on Steam, choose to host on Steam’s servers.
- Otherwise, select EA’s servers, which requires both players to have an EA account.
- Click "Invite a Friend."
- Search for your friend’s username and send the invite.
Troubleshooting: Crossplay Settings
If you’re playing on different platforms and having connection issues, make sure crossplay is enabled:
- On PS5, go to Privacy Settings in the game’s Options menu.
- On Xbox, crossplay must be turned on through your Microsoft account settings.
Can This Be Played in Singleplayer?
Unless you have some next-level two-controller multitasking skills, Split Fiction cannot be played alone. It’s built entirely around co-op, so you’ll need a real teammate to tackle its 12 to 16-hour story. This is very close to the concept of It Takes Two, so grab your duo and start the grind!
