Who is Mary? Phoenix's sister adds context to his lore and past struggle
With Valorant officially giving us a glimpse of who Mary is, the context to Phoenix's past, behaviour and abilities may be linked to her or.. through her. Find out who Phoenix's sister is and what she could mean to Phoenix

What happens when you weave fire — but the sparks starts dying from within? That’s Phoenix, the ‘charismatic playboy’ whose flame is now flickering beneath the surface.
His cocky one-liners still crackle with fire, but the spark behind them feels dimmer. Beneath the bravado and flame, Valorant's once-untouchable duelist seems to be carrying more weight — distracted, disoriented and distant. In patch 10.07, Riot slipped us a voicemail. Literally. And there it was, a raw, unguarded message Jamie Adeyemi leaves for someone who knows him beyond the battlefield: his little sister. Her name? Mary.
Who is Mary? Phoenix's sister!!!! But...
“Yo, baby sis... giving me a taste of my own medicine, huh?”
The voicemail is more than just sibling banter — it’s a window into Phoenix's fractured personal life. We learn that Mary’s been in Lagos for years now, likely with family (“Send Auntie Buki my best”), and that Phoenix hasn’t been the best at keeping in touch. He’s missed her calls, missed home, missed her. It’s a rare display of emotional vulnerability from an agent who usually masks his pain with fire and humor.
And then we had confirmation, an external communication request to M. Adeyemi — Mary. Authorized. monitored. official. For Phoenix, even calling home requires jumping through agency protocol. It’s subtle, but it paints a sharp contrast: Jamie may be a global hero, but the cost of that title is steep. He's not unreachable — he's been reached. He just can't always answer and for someone who always has something to say, that digs deep. He's fighting a war, not just outwardly but from within
A Fractured Family
The 10.9 voicemail touches on London, their mother, and how long it's been since Jamie was home. These details reshape how we see Phoenix’s origin story. Before VALORANT Protocol recruited him, he was a young man from South London unaware of the cost he had to pay — a family forced to grow apart.
Mary isn’t just a narrative prop. She’s his emotional anchor, a reminder of who he was before becoming Agent 09. Her presence opens doors to long-unanswered questions:
-
What happened that pulled Phoenix away from home?
-
What was his life before he joined the Protocol?
-
Is his brash persona just armor forged from guilt— from running?
Will Mary Be The Next Agent?

To be clear: Mary is not the next agent, and there are no plans to make her playable. As many community members stated, “It would be cruel.” This is fair, the agents are already traumatized, and killing your sibling would be... well...but Riot’s official statement promises that her introduction is just the beginning. As we get into V25, Mary's reappearance may reveal more than just family drama — it could finally explain Phoenix’s growing instability.
And there’s one more twist. According to Riot, Mary’s got talent. Big talent. Music. Stage. Star power. Whatever it is, Phoenix’s command of the spotlight runs in the family.
Is Mary thriving in Lagos? Or does her story hold the key to something even bigger — something connected to Phoenix's struggles with identity, memory, or... mirror clones?

What Comes Next?
Phoenix has always been about fire, about presence. But maybe, just maybe, it’s time to turn the spotlight inward — to where it burns. And Mary might be the only one who can light that path.
After all, even the fiercest flames flicker when they’re far from home.
