Overwatch 2 servers live again but Bastion and Torbjörn remain unplayable; Half of Overwatch 2 rosters has been locked for some players
Servers are live but players are still facing problems connecting to Overwatch 2. As for the account merge feature, it’s still causing various issues.

Overwatch 2 went under maintenance today in the morning, in a bid to fix a plethora of issues plaguing the newly-arrived game so far. There have been several issues such as problems with account merger and some players having half of their rosters locked. Overwatch 2 temporarily has two of its characters locked due to some issues, namely Bastion and Torbjörn. Both of these will remain unavailable for game modes as it stands. However, Torbjörn will remain available to use for Quick Play game mode. Bastion is believed to be removed due to a glitch that allowed players to use his ultimate ability infinitely without any cooldown period.

“Bastion and Torbjörn will be taking a quick trip to the workshop while we iron out a few bugs in their ability kit,” wrote Blizzard on Overwatch 2’s official Twitter account. There was also an emergency maintenance scheduled for 8:30 AM (IST) in the morning for about an hour. The servers are now live again, or so has been claimed by Overwatch 2. Players have replied to that Twitter thread saying that they are still facing issues in connecting to Overwatch 2 servers.

Meanwhile, Kotaku has reported that some players have half of their rosters locked, not just the two characters that were temporarily removed. Some Overwatch 2 players are being put in a queue to connect to Overwatch 2 on Battle.net, even when they’re not trying to play Overwatch 2.
cool story, 70% of my hero roster got locked for no reason. pic.twitter.com/6q91vDwgvL

Overwatch 2 account merge issue persists
As for the account merge feature, it’s still causing various issues. For starters, some console players are still not being prompted to connect their Battle.net account in order to migrate their progress and items from Overwatch. Furthermore, players who have connected are somehow not seeing their items in the inventory at all, implying that the account merge was rather unsuccessful.
Overwatch 2’s rocky start continues to plague Blizzard’s idea to seamlessly migrate players from Overwatch to Overwatch 2 since the game was released a day after Overwatch servers shut down.
Blizzard apologises for Overwatch 2 launch issues
Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller even apologised to the fans while they also removed the necessity to link a phone number to Battle.net account so as to play Overwatch 2. It’s key to note that the requirement is only removed for existing Overwatch players, not new players trying to join the game. They’ll still have to link a valid phone number, which apparently does not include some pre-paid mobile services. Activision Blizzard will be asking players to verify their Battle.net account via a phone number for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 as well when the game launches on October 28 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
